❄️ Did you know snowstorms can hit any time of year? ❄️ Back in October 1984, a powerful lake-effect storm dumped nearly 2 feet of snow across the Salt Lake Valley! 🌨️ This wasn’t caused major traffic delays 🚗, widespread power outages ⚡, and school closures 🏫 all across the area. This disaster spotlight is a timely reminder that fall weather can be incredibly variable and warrants extra caution when getting out to explore the fall colors. Storms like this can catch anyone off guard, especially when they occur outside of the winter season — stay prepared year-round at www.bereadyutah.gov #BeReadyUtah #WinterWeather #UtahDisasterSpotlight #Preparedness

Last night, we tragically lost two officers from the Tremonton Police Department while they were on duty. Additionally, a deputy from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office was injured while responding to the incident. Our hearts are heavy, and we extend our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, and colleagues of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Department of Public Safety stands in solidarity with the Tremonton Police Department and the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office. UHP Troopers and SBI Agents immediately responded, and the DPS will continue to provide every available resource to support these agencies and the community during this heartbreaking time.

Welcome to the DPS team!
This morning, we welcomed a new group of employees to the Utah Department of Public Safety as part of our monthly new employee orientation. These sessions are more than just a formality; they provide an opportunity for our leadership team, including myself and our Deputy Commissioners, to personally connect with each new team member. During this time, we discuss our organizational structure, priorities, values, and challenges. Most importantly, we share the "why" behind our daily work. Building relationships from day one helps to strengthen the culture of public service that drives our mission of Keeping Utah Safe. Welcome to the team!

Thank you, Governor, for taking the time to get to know our team members at a deeper level and what we do in order to continue our vision and mission of Keeping Utah Safe!
I’m grateful for the incredible public servants who keep our state running, often without fanfare and always with integrity. We kicked off Public Employee Appreciation Week with a visit to the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to say thank you in person. Your work matters, and Utah is better because of it. Utah Department of Public Safety
