WE ALL need to pay attention to this. This chart shows two things. The blue area is what AI *could* theoretically help with across different types of jobs. The red area is what people are actually using AI for in real work today. The big gap between the two tells us something important: AI can do more than most organisations are currently using it for. The barrier is not just technology. It is trust, process, confidence, governance, training, and knowing where AI should and should not be used. That matters for skills because work is starting to change shape. In many roles, the routine parts of work, like drafting, summarising, basic analysis, information handling, and repetitive admin, are becoming easier to automate or speed up. So the skills that rise in value are the ones around them: judgement, checking, prioritising, communicating clearly, using context, asking better questions, and improving outputs rather than just producing a first draft. Another important point is that this does *NOT* mean all jobs suddenly disappear. Anthropic’s study (link in first comment) says actual AI coverage is still only a fraction of what is theoretically possible. It also found no clear rise in unemployment in the most exposed occupations so far, although there are early signs that hiring may be slowing in some more exposed roles, especially and unfortunately for younger workers. So, the real message is this: skills are not becoming less important because of AI. They are becoming more important, but in *different ways*. Organisations now need to know which skills are still core, which are being augmented by AI, which need stronger human oversight, and which new skills must be developed next.
