Behind every prototype is a team who always had "what if…?" in the back of their minds. After the Prototyping Program, stage 2 of LIF Launchpad, has come to an end, Talents have shared with us what it has been like to turn their ideas into action, testing, learning, and building solutions that matter to their communities. From healthcare to food systems to sustainable cities, their reflections highlight the challenges, breakthroughs, and insights they gained throughout the journey. Read more on our latest blog post. How do we build better environments for the way we live today and tomorrow? 🌇 Together with Rambøll Fonden / Ramboll Foundation and Ramboll, we tackled that question in Singapore, Copenhagen, and London through a series of UNLEASH Hacks that brought together 56 Talents to unpack local challenges – from rising urban heat to housing access and the future of industrial spaces – and learn the tools needed to generate tangible ideas. Over two intensive days in Singapore, London, and Copenhagen, global perspectives met local realities, resulting in solutions shaped by real constraints, lived experiences, and technical insight. 🚀 Read more in our latest blog post. ⚡️ Link comments.

You know a challenge very well. You've got an idea to solve it. But how can you make sure it will work? By testing it, learning what works, what doesn't, and which aspects need refinement. Getting feedback on your solution helps you challenge your assumptions, ultimately leading to more resilient, effective, and impactful outcomes. This week, we wrapped up the Prototyping Program, stage 2 of LIF Launchpad, where 40 Teams spent 3 months of hands-on work to strengthen the solutions they developed during the UNLEASH Philippines Innovation Lab, ranging from improving mobility during flood events, to supporting smallholder farmers with better post-harvest systems, and reducing food waste through more accessible platforms. Guided by mentors, they built prototypes and tested them in different environments, pushing their ideas step by step, using the feedback to pivot or go back to the drawing board, and learning and iterating along the way. From sourcing materials to crafting and 3D printing, and testing across simulated environments, laboratory settings, and real-world field conditions, teams pushed their ideas forward step by step. Not every prototype worked or every test went as planned at the beginning, but through continuous iteration, Talents gained pivotal feedback that guided them back to the drawing board to strengthen their solutions. As we wrapped up our final workshop this week, Talents move forward with not only refined prototypes, but with new skills, insights, and the confidence to continue developing solutions that can create meaningful change. UNLEASH reposted this
#Copenhagen is enlisting an unusual ally in the fight to protect itself from ever-increasing rainfall: its parks. Many of the city’s historic green spaces have been retrofitted with channels, pools, levees and underground reservoirs - such as the neoclassical 1929 Enghaveparken, which now holds 10 Olympic-sized swimming pools of rainwater runoff underground in a hidden chamber. Preparing for and collecting this water has a number of advantages: as well as protecting the city from devastating #floods, the reservoirs can supply city utilities, feed plants and flowers and even provide water features where citizens can gather and play. It’s all part of Copenhagen’s bid to transform itself into the world’s first fully fledged sponge city. The Davos Baukultur Alliance champions sustainable and climate-resilient urban development by encouraging circular methods in the construction and management of buildings, infrastructure and public spaces. In 2017, at our first Innovation Lab, ideas about documenting materials before demolition and scaling reuse felt ambitious. Even premature. Today, circularity in the built environment is no longer theoretical. Regulation, AI, and new business models are reshaping what’s possible. At UNLEASH Europe, we’ll bring together 200 young changemakers in Copenhagen to help move circular construction from pilot projects to scalable systems across Europe. If you care about redesigning how we build, this is your moment. Apply now! 🔗 www.unleash.org/europe
Back in 2017 I participated in the UNLEASH Innovation Lab, where our team won with an idea that, at the time, felt both technically ambitious and commercially uncertain. The premise was relatively straightforward: use reality capture to scan existing buildings before demolition, translate the data into usable BIM models, and build a marketplace where materials could be documented, valued and matched with future projects before they were removed. In 2017 the technology was there in principle, but the cost of scanning was high, the data processing was slow, and perhaps most importantly, the market conditions were not mature enough for the model to scale. What is striking today is how quickly those conditions are changing. AI is dramatically accelerating point cloud processing and object recognition. Regulatory frameworks are pushing transparency around embodied carbon. Developers and investors are beginning to talk about risk exposure as well as commercial opportunities in coupled to demolition of existing buildings. The interesting shift is therefore not only architectural, but economic. New business models are emerging in the space between demolition and reintegration, models that redefine who owns the data, who assumes liability, and who captures the financial upside of reuse. It's properly exciting and I'm happy to see the healthy competition arising in this space. Circular construction will not scale through good intentions alone. It will scale when documentation reduces risk, when data enables more fluid material flows, and when the incentives across the value chain are aligned. Then the magic happens! For our project TRÆ we sourced materials by phone - but next time, I'm sure it will be digital. Applications are rolling in for UNLEASH Europe… but a few corners of the continent are still missing. At a time when Europe is navigating major transitions, from housing and climate adaptation to circularity and livable cities, we need a truly shared mindset. That means mobilizing young people from every part of the continent to shape what comes next. UNLEASH Europe brings 200 young changemakers to Copenhagen for a week of cross-border collaboration, where they work in diverse teams to co-create real solutions for a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient continent. And it won’t be the same without representation from every corner of Europe! Do you know someone from the Faroe Islands, Estonia, or the Czech Republic who cares about the future of cities, communities, and the built environment? 👉 Tag them below. 👉 Tag universities, organizations, networks. 👉 Send this post to someone who should be in the room. No prior innovation experience needed. You just need curiosity, courage, and a willingness to collaborate. 📍 Copenhagen, Denmark 📆 June 27 – July 4 🔗 Link in comments ⏰ Applications close March 3, 23.59 CET Let’s make sure every part of Europe is at the table.
