𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸? Resilience has been a topic this week, and worth watching is the replay of an Educause shop talk podcast entitled 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 https://lnkd.in/eP76XpuE In the discussion, Dr. Jacquelyn Malcolm Bailey offers a powerful mindset shift that changes “bounce back” (that action we’re expected to do when a setback occurs) to “bounce forward” (intentionally looking to the future and adapting in advance). Jacquelyn Malcolm Bailey, MS, EdD, EJD Kathe Pelletier, EdD Sophie White John Dunning I keep a sticky note on my monitor that reads “𝙄𝙛 𝙘𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙬𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙪𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙬𝙚 𝙙𝙤 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙪𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧?” It’s a simple yet useful reminder to me that things change, and we need to change with them. In our work right now, AI is both offering and pressing change on us, and fundamental questions are being asked about the value of software development and the future of knowledge work. Our “bounce forward” moment, rather than seeing AI as a challenge to overcome, is to think about how it can enable us to be better, deliver better, and move our work up the proverbial value chain. I’ve long said that we all work in service of someone else. If that someone’s need changes, and we don’t see it, we no longer serve them usefully. How often are we lifting our heads up to see what those we serve need from us? What reminders do we need to build better forward-facing resilience into our businesses, institutions, and our lives?🤔
