In Memoriam: Young Suh Kim (1935–2025) It is with deep respect that we announce the passing of Professor Emeritus Young Suh Kim, who served the University of Maryland Department of Physics with distinction for more than four decades. Joining the department in 1962 at the invitation of John S. Toll, Professor Kim became the youngest assistant professor in the university’s history. His pioneering research on the Lorentz and Poincaré groups advanced the understanding of relativistic symmetries, and his collaboration with Marilyn E. Noz produced the covariant harmonic oscillator model; a key contribution linking the quark model and Feynman’s parton picture. Professor Kim’s work, including his seminal book Theory and Applications of the Poincaré Group, continues to influence generations of physicists and stands as a proud part of Maryland’s research legacy. In Memoriam: Chung Yun Chang (1929 – 2025) It is with deep respect that we announce the passing of Professor Emeritus Chung Yun Chang. Chung joined the University of Maryland Department of Physics in the mid-1960s, contributing to groundbreaking bubble chamber research that shaped modern particle physics. After retiring in 1997, he continued his research, remained active in the scientific community, and was a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
