We're building something that doesn't exist yet: a safe space where AI developers, startups, and SMEs can test their innovations on large-scale power grid simulations - without risking real infrastructure. At R&D Nester - Centro de Investigação em Energia REN - State Grid, S.A., Senior Researcher Nuno Pinho da Silva and his team are creating digital twins of actual transmission networks. These aren't simplified models. They're realistic replicas that behave like the real thing. The result? Innovators can push their AI solutions to the limit, learn what works, fix what doesn't - all before a single line of code touches live infrastructure. Why does this matter? After three years of collaboration across Europe, the Hungry EcoCities project (AI enabled artistic solutions for sustainable food systems) is coming to a close. Artists, designers, researchers and SMEs have worked together to explore how food can shape the cities of tomorrow. From speculative ideas to tangible prototypes, the programme has shown how creativity and technology can nourish both people and planet.
