Providing those experiencing homelessness with free, accessible and safe storage.

About us

Street Storage provides those experiencing homelessness with free, accessible and safe storage. We allow rough sleepers physical respite from carrying their belongings, and provide those with longer term storage needs the peace of mind they so often cannot find living in poverty. Street Storage has been working hard with the help of our amazing charity partners, funders, trustees and volunteers to make this vision and need a reality. Having a secure place for your belongings should be a human right, and Street Storage aims to reduce the stigma and mental struggle placed on the homeless, reduce incidences of theft and hate crime committed against this marginalized group and help redirect the money that charities are still spending weekly on replacing lost or stolen, often essential, documentation. • Huge thanks to 22Bishopsgate for donating a generous supply of water flasks, and to the brilliant team at Bywatersuk for making it happen! 🙌 With the summer months just over the horizon, staying hydrated is so important. 📩We'll be giving these out to the people who use our service, and we'd love to share the rest with other grassroots services who could put them to good use - just drop us a DM! If you'd like to support us with a physical donation, visit our Give Today portal (https://buff.ly/GojOPg3 ). There are items listed that we'd be very grateful to receive. 💙

  • Can you believe it's been two years since we moved? We've been reflecting this week how two years ago we moved over 1,000 bags and hundreds of people's belongings to our wonderful new home. We looked back at just how many people have been able to use our service in that time and found that: In two years. 518 people brought their belongings for the first time. 447 people collected them, having resolved their situations. One thing that's not lost on us with those numbers is that many of the people who come to us don't have a choice. They need somewhere safe, reliable and trustworthy to keep what matters most to them, away from the risk of it being lost, stolen or damaged. That responsibility isn't something we take lightly. Over the period someone stores with us we work to transform that trust that's based on necessity to a trust that's built on proof. We're keen to get everyone to see what our space looks like so check it out! Our tour video: https://buff.ly/BL9eH8F Our text walkthrough: https://buff.ly/InKOjSc

  • Huge thank you to the person who shared the word about Street Storage, to the person who kindly donated and to everyone else who works hard to get the message out about the work we provide! We work with referral partners across London, but there are still many situations where people might not know about us. The more people who know we’re here, the more people we can support. 💙

  • What does the running of Street Storage actually look like? Our latest annual report is officially LIVE! The team has spent the last few weeks looking back at the stories, the challenges, and the victories of 2024-2025 at Street Storage. This work is only possible because of our incredible supporters and those who trust us to keep their belongings safe while they navigate their next steps. • Could you fit everything in your bedroom into one suitcase? 🧳 According to one moving expert, the average person needs at least 22 boxes to pack a bedroom, not one suitcase. Imagine you’re told you only get one bag to fill with all your favourite clothes, your photographs and your memories you’ve built up over the years. For people forced into homelessness, this is the reality. With little time to do an impossible task, people then have to think about this: 1. Will I be able to physically carry this all day? 2. If I sleep, will my belongings be there when I wake up? 3. Will my belongings be damaged by the weather? 4. How will I go to a job interview carrying everything I own? That’s why Rachel Woolf founded Street Storage in 2019. We provide a safe space for hundreds of people to store their belongings until they are back on their feet. You can help us protect these essentials. 🫂 Whether you donate, fundraise for us, shop our wish list, or simply help us spread the word, you’re helping someone keep their future safe while they navigate the present. 💙

I woke up today feeling a bit "off." Just generally tired and nursing a serious case of the midweek blues. But as I made my way through King's Cross to head into Street Storage, my morning took a turn. I stopped by Gramos Coffee, a wonderful family-owned shop in the station. The owners, Charlotte and Rodolfo, are the loveliest people. For a while now, they’ve been donating bags of high-quality beans to us at Street Storage. 🫘 We have a bean-to-cup machine for the people who use our service, and let me tell you, Gramos’ beans make all the difference. While I was collecting our fresh supply this morning, Charlotte offered me a tea and we had a nice catch-up. Walking away into the sunshine with that tea in hand, the comfort I felt for my 'midweek blues' gave me a fresh perspective on my day. ☀️ That experience has reminded me exactly why that coffee machine exists at Street Storage. A cup of coffee or tea feels like a simple thing. But when you’re not feeling great, that small moment of quality and comfort means everything. 🫂 I'm aware my situation is different from the people who store their belongings with us, but the feeling remains the same: being treated to something made with care and "love" can provide some much-needed comfort. Huge thank you to Charlotte, Rodolfo, and the Gramos Coffee team for being such a vital part of our community. 💙 ‼️If you’re ever in King's Cross, please do check them out and support a local business making a real-world impact.

    • A selfie of Lilian halfway up some stairs. She has headphones on, her coat and is holding a takeaway tea in her hand.
    • A kg of coffee beans. Written on the bag is "Street Storage beans 16 march". There is a label on the bag which reads "Single origin coffee. Rwanda. Gramos Coffee Roasters.
  • A few weeks ago I took part in the first Stephen Lloyd Awards Alumni Event with some fantastic speakers. We had Peter Grant challenging us to fundraise differently, Jim Clifford teaching us about storytelling and impact measurement and Jill Garrett teaching us some hard truths about resilience and leadership! I feel so lucky to have this special community of people around me to learn from and support one another. Thank you Bates Wells for the opportunity to come together! - Rachel Woolf
