This past November 19, STEM From Dance gathered for a special fundraiser hosted by board member Claire Simier with incredible planning support from Simier Partners LLC—an evening that reflected the power of community and shared belief in young innovators’ brilliance. We are especially thankful to Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson, who expertly facilitated the Q+A conversation with our Founder & CEO, Yamilee. As a seasoned leader and thoughtful interviewer, Magalie guided a dialogue that centered purpose, possibility, and the transformative impact of dance + STEM. Recent studies reveal a concerning trend: only 59% of girls in grades 9–12 believe they can be proficient in STEM. A significant decline from 73% in 2017. This drop is influenced by messages and stereotypes that undermine girls' belief in their STEM capabilities. At STEM From Dance, we're committed to reversing this trend by creating a supportive environment where girls build confidence at the intersection of STEM and dance. And it's working. 𝟴𝟳% 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 stated “I am more confident that girls can be good at STEM” after attending a program.
