We are pleased to announce the official presentation of the first Italian campaign for the cataloguing of extraterrestrial materials, developed within the Space It Up! project. The initiative aims to establish a unified and scientifically robust framework for the documentation, study, and accessibility of meteorites preserved in Italian museums, universities, and research institutions. By adopting national cataloguing standards and advanced digital methodologies, the campaign addresses the historical fragmentation of Italy’s meteoritic heritage and strengthens its value for research, conservation, and planetary science. Further details are available at the link below: https://lnkd.in/dS4-d7ck The campaign will be officially presented on 16 January 2026 at 3:00 PM, at the Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo e la Documentazione, Via di San Michele 18, Rome. The presentation will also be broadcast live on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dpcPCb6T An important step towards building an integrated, interoperable, and future-oriented ecosystem for extraterrestrial materials in Italy. #SpaceItUp #ExtraterrestrialMaterials #SpaceHeritage #MeteoriteResearch

🚀 We are pleased to present the spokes of the Space It Up! project. Today we introduce Spoke 3: Spoke 3 focuses on advancing next-generation sensor technologies for space-based Earth observation. Current imaging systems, including those supporting the Copernicus Emergency Management Service, provide an important contribution to disaster response and climate monitoring. However, they still rely largely on conventional, mostly monolithic satellite and sensor architectures, which limit flexibility and mission-level adaptability. As a result, system performance is often constrained by trade-offs between resolution and spatial/temporal coverage. To address these limitations, Spoke 3 explores innovative sensor concepts organized around four main research areas: • Distributed Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). • Sub-millimetre spectrometers on-chip. • Digital radar technologies. • High-performance optical imaging enabled by CubeSat platforms. Building on the space technology trend toward miniaturization and multi-satellite missions, Spoke 3 aims to enhance overall system performance while improving flexibility, robustness, and mission resilience. 🚀 Follow our channels and visit https://lnkd.in/edR5XjMW to stay updated on the latest achievements and discoveries from Italy’s space excellence. #SIU! #SPOKES

🚀 We are pleased to present the spokes of the Space It Up! project. Today we introduce Spoke 1: Spoke 1 advances low-TRL research and development to enable novel near-Earth and exploration missions, addressing key technological challenges across multiple mission scenarios. 🔹 Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) Applications. The objective is to lower the altitude at which Earth Observation is performed. To survive and thrive in this distinct regime, the research is focused on developing advanced materials capable of withstanding harsh environments and pioneering air-breathing propulsion systems. These are supported by fine attitude and optimal orbit control specifically tuned for low altitude operations. 🔹 Distributed Space Systems. The future of near-Earth missions relies on coordination. The focus lies on designing and testing low-TRL GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) solutions for distributed platforms and swarms. Beyond formation flying, advancements extend to technologies for in-orbit servicing, protection, and on-board processing, ensuring smarter and more sustainable space assets. 🔹 Miniaturized Platforms for Deep Space. The validity of miniaturized technologies for deep-space exploration is addressed through the development of radiation-tolerant components and the implementation of fully autonomous operations for small platforms. Furthermore, technologies for resource extraction and manipulation (ISRU) are advanced to support future space logistics. 💡 Collectively, these research lines aim to bridge the gap between low-TRL concepts and operational capabilities, paving the way for the next generation of versatile and sustainable space architectures. 🚀 Follow our channels and visit https://lnkd.in/edR5XjMW to stay updated on the latest achievements and discoveries from Italy’s space excellence. #SIU! #SPOKES
