About us

Sandbar is the all-in-one, self-service AML screening. Start with one list, one module, or the entire stack––it’s the only AML screening solution you'll ever need, from clean and reliable source information to configurable matching engines and AI-native alert management interfaces. You can rely on our system as your entire AML screening stack or to augment your internal systems with cleaner data, better results, and faster alert handling times. • Data –– 1,000+ lists, 60k news sources, BYOData; 275+ countries. • Types –– Sanctions, PEPs, Adv. Media, UBOs, MRBs, 314A, custom lists. • Timing –– Screen payers and payees at onboarding or ongoing in real-time. • Output –– Control alert volumes with multiple matching engines and filters. • Interface –– One system for everyone: from L1s to managers and bank partners. • Logs –– All customer history and alert context in one place. • AI –– Automate away everyday tasks with suggestions and L1 AI agents. We serve fintechs directly, infrastructure providers, and tangential solutions that need something more configurable, dynamic, and efficient compared to legacy systems like ComplyAdvantage, CSI Watchdog, Verafin, Minerva, and Bridger. Whether you’re a new fintech that just needs something in place asap, a scaling fintech that needs your first dedicated solution to keep up with growth, or an enterprise that needs an entirely new system––top to bottom––to replace ComplyAdvantage, CSI, etc. for your or your client, we’re here to help. Reach out if you’re a fintech founder, CCO or BSA officer, or tangential solution looking for a better screening provider. Companies like Gusto, Rho, and Salsa trust us for AML screening. We’re a team of eight in NYC, Buenos Aires, and Austin, backed by Lachy Groom, Abstract Ventures, BoxGroup, NextView, and 40+ founders and execs from Ramp, OpenAI, Stripe, Credit Karma, Square, Plaid, and more.

Hot take: AI is making the talent gap worse, not better. Everyone's talking about how AI democratizes skill. Levels the playing field. Lets anyone do what only experts could do before. I'm not seeing it. What I'm seeing is experienced people getting way more leverage while inexperienced people produce polished-looking garbage they can't evaluate. The bottleneck was never the output. It was the judgment to know what to ask for, when the result is wrong, and what good actually looks like. AI doesn't solve that. It exposes it. The "anyone can code now" crowd is about to learn the same lesson the "anyone can write now" crowd learned. Generating text isn't writing. Generating code isn't engineering. The craft is in what happens after the first draft. If you couldn't spot a bad decision before AI, you definitely can't spot one now when it comes wrapped in perfect formatting and confident tone. The floor didn't rise. The ceiling did.

Why $10,000? In 1970, Congress needed a threshold for currency transaction reporting. They picked $10,000 because it captured the big stuff—buying a house, a boat, etc. But that $10k in ‘70 equals ~$77k today. And of course they’ve never adjusted for inflation. So your corner deli’s daily cash deposit now triggers the same reporting as someone buying a mansion did in 1970. By 2001, investigators were drowning in reports. The PATRIOT Act tried to fix it with exemption systems. Banks mostly ignored them—choosing to overshoot vs undershoot on reporting volumes. Result: 54 years later, we’re still filing reports on grocery store deposits and drowning under alerts instead of spending that time on potentially more important things. What should the CTR reporting threshold be? $20k, $30k, more, not at all? #AML #CTR #History

  • If you haven't heard, we've relaunched as Particle Intel––a nod to our original name, Sandbar, and our more modular, scalable system that we'll be releasing shortly. New team, new tech, same mission. Follow Particle Intel for the latest updates and news. 🎊

Sandbar is now Particle Intel. I love the name Sandbar and its backstory, but a simple rebrand wouldn’t capture the amount of change we’ve had. It’s a new team and a new codebase. We’ve added 6 new joiners since May and by the fall, our new system will be live; we wrote our first line of code a couple weeks ago. We live in a different world where experienced teams can grow and build entirely new systems––complex ones––very quickly. Vibe coding or not, it’s hard to deny. We want to take advantage of that speed and timing. We’re excited to introduce the new team and system in the coming weeks and months. But Sandbar is not gone––it’s history and the lessons we’ve learned are a critical part of this change and the origin story remains. Particle is an abstraction of the story and meaning, reflecting our new modular and scalable system ahead. Start with one list, one module, or the entire stack––it’s the only AML screening solution you'll ever need, from clean and reliable source information to configurable matching engines and AI-native alert management interfaces. I’m not 100% sure what’ll come of the name change, but I’m 100% sure we’re on to something. RIP Sandbar; we’ll be holding a viewing for the old name and celebration of the new one when we turn on the new system. In the meantime, check out our new website. You might say wow it’s just one page. But as much as I’d like to say it’s done, it’s far from it. The point is not to wait til it’s ‘ready’ bc it’ll never be done or ready, but rather to show the growth and keep you up to date on additions and changes, just like we’ll do with the product. We’ll treat them like living organisms because they are, and that’s the beauty of building, you can always change :)
