  • Career growth does not always follow a straight line, and stories like this are an important reminder of that... We’re proud to spotlight Program Leader Inika Bhatia whose years since graduating at San José State University have been shaped by global travel, leadership, and hands on community work across four continents and more than 20 countries! Her experience includes village infrastructure projects in Fiji, teaching English in northern Thailand, environmental restoration work across Southeast Asia, hurricane relief efforts in New Orleans, and volunteer service in New Zealand. She shared it best in her own words: “I’ve learned how to connect across cultures and language barriers, and how important it is to move through today’s complex world with humility, perseverance, and joy.” Thank you, Inika, for the care, perspective, and energy you bring to students and communities. We’re grateful to have you on the Rustic Pathways team and excited to see you in Europe this summer! #LeadershipDevelopment #ExperientialLearning #GlobalEducation #TravelWithPurpose #CareerGrowth #YouthLeadership #RusticPathways

  • The future is in good hands 🌎✨ There’s something powerful about watching young people choose to spend their summer helping others. Our teen travel programs give students the opportunity to earn service hours while contributing to meaningful community projects around the world. Along the way, they build confidence, gain perspective, and discover strengths they may not have known they had. For parents looking for a summer experience with purpose, our programs offer more than travel. They give students the chance to return home more independent, more aware of the world, and proud of the impact they made. These trips aren’t just about where they go. They’re about who they become along the way. If you’re exploring meaningful summer opportunities for your child, head to our website! https://lnkd.in/g3tT8p2W

  • What happens when student travel goes beyond sightseeing? Our Food Sustainability program in Morocco invites students to explore one of the world’s most vibrant cultures through the lens of food systems, sustainability, and service learning. Students engage directly with the real issues shaping global food access today, including climate change, development, water scarcity, and population growth. Along the way, they learn from local experts, visit sustainable agriculture initiatives, explore fair trade practices, and examine responsible fishing in coastal communities. The experience is equally personal and immersive. Homestays in Marrakech create meaningful cultural exchange, while cooking classes, market visits, Darija lessons, and time with Amazigh families offer a deeper understanding of daily life in Morocco. Students also contribute through hands-on service projects in High Atlas mountain villages, building connection while making a tangible impact. And yes, there are unforgettable moments too. Camel rides, carpet weaving, beach time in Essaouira, and celebration dinners with live music. This is what educational travel can look like when learning is experiential, community centered, and globally relevant. Are you an educator interested in bringing their students abroad? Reach out to learn more! Teachers and school leaders travel free on group programs. #StudentTravel #EducationalTravel #ExperientialLearning #GlobalEducation #Morocco

  • Earth Day 🌎 is a reminder that environmental awareness is not only taught in classrooms but often understood more deeply through lived experience. On programs in places like Morocco, students engage directly with landscapes that shape daily life. The Sahara desert and rural communities highlight how closely land use and sustainability are connected to local traditions and survival. Experiential learning in these settings allows students to observe environmental concepts in context, ask better questions, and reflect on how different regions approach stewardship of natural resources. Earth Day is one day in the calendar, but its importance and the broader goal is to help young people understand their role in a global ecosystem and the responsibility that comes with travel. ✈️💫

  • We really appreciate you sharing this reflection Mrittika Govindaraj, and we're glad our Climate Leaders Fellowship was such a meaningful experience for you! Recognizing that impact is not only about results but also about intention, effort, and the way your work affects others is an important shift and one that will carry forward into future projects.💪 Thank you for being part of the program and for the energy you contributed. We look forward to seeing how you continue to build on what you've learned!

its sad when good things come to an end, yesterday was the last day of CLF... Every CLF session was SOO MUCH funn And the facilitators were seriously soo GOATEDD and helped me make my project better :) This opportunity helped me create a project, and actually understand what the term "impact" means No its not just about the numbers, but how much you affect the people around you, and also how much effort you put into your project. Other fellows in my cohort were really awesome to talk too, and I learnt a lot from each one of them, and got inspired too :) What I really liked was how each one of us came up with a different solution to the same goal: raise climate action. Some of us related our solutions to education while others related to tech & building Overall I just want to say, Thank you so much Rustic Pathways for this incredible opportunity🫶 And I am seriously going miss this A LOTT

  • Some of the most meaningful growth happens in between the planned moments. For university students, that often means stepping away from constant digital communication and learning how to connect in a more direct, human way. In our Morocco Souks and High Atlas Service program, students spend 9 days moving between the fast pace of Marrakech and the quieter, community-centered life of a High Atlas village. That shift matters! Working on community-led projects means communication goes beyond words. It's about listening, observing, and working alongside others toward a shared goal. These are the kinds of experiences that build patience, adaptability, and confidence in unfamiliar environments. Students don't just return with memories. They come back with a clearer understanding of how to build trust and navigate new situations with intention. Find more information here: https://lnkd.in/gZDDWNpf

  • Just a trip or a full teen transformation? That depends on our Program Leaders! Expertise in student travel goes beyond logistics. It’s about having mentors who understand the local pulse of a destination. Our 2026 program leaders in Portugal are the backbone of the Lisbon & Surf Culture experience. These leaders oversee everything from professional surf instruction at Costa da Caparica to marine conservation workshops in the Sado Estuary. Maintaining a 5:1 student-to-staff ratio ensures every high schooler receives personalized mentorship while navigating the historic streets of Alfama. Parents trust our team because we provide 24/7 medical and operational support throughout the 8-day journey. Our staff members are dedicated to empowering students to step outside their comfort zones in a safe, vetted environment. • We recently received this message from a parent of a former Rustic Pathways teen traveler, and it captures something we hear often. Students don't just come back with photos or souvenirs. They return with increased confidence and a new perspective on themselves and the world. 💫 🌍 Experiences like international travel, cultural immersion, and group-based programs create an environment where teens step outside of their comfort zone, build meaningful connections, and grow in ways that are difficult to replicate in a traditional setting. For families researching teen travel programs, student travel abroad, or summer experiences for high school students, one of the most common questions is simple, will this ACTUALLY make a difference? Feedback like this is the answer! YES! Summer 2026 teen travel programs are still open for enrollment. If you're exploring options for your student, we're here to help you find the right fit.

  • We've been busy hosting virtual pre-departure meet-and-greet sessions for our teen travel programs, giving students enrolled in upcoming summer trips a chance to meet their group before traveling. ✈️✌️ These sessions are designed to support the early stage of the teen travel experience, before departure. Students introduce themselves, learn who they'll be traveling with, and begin building peer connections ahead of their program. A key benefit of these virtual meetings is helping reduce pre-travel jitters. When students recognize familiar faces on day one of the trip, it can ease anxiety and increase confidence as they transition into the in-person experience. They also help families better understand the group dynamic before departure, adding transparency and reassurance around the travel experience. Teen travel programs are still open for summer enrollment! If you're exploring student travel options, there are opportunities available and we'd be happy to help you find the right program for your family.
