Hot take: we need to stop blaming AI for our bad design choices. The researchers built a custom AI agent in Microsoft Copilot Studio, gave it access to a customer database (including fake names and credit cards), and told it to validate the customer ID before placing a flight ticket order. They then bypassed their own instructions using prompt injection and were shocked the agent… followed the access they gave it 😶 It’s basically being surprised you tied in tic-tac-toe against yourself. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝘃𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲. Yet another reminder of what happens when you skip real access controls and rely on prompts as your guardrail 🤡 I hope engineers today will see this and be just as confused as I was, because if this setup doesn’t raise eyebrows, we’re in real trouble.
