Last year, the World Health Organization and PATH convened vaccine experts, public health officials, and regulators to explore new ways to facilitate approval of novel #CombinationVaccines. New combination vaccines could play a major role in helping immunization programs more efficiently address a wider range of pathogens. However, few combinations are currently in the pipeline, in part due to their complex regulatory approval pathways. Regulators are open to building on existing guidelines and experience to identify new ways to assess these vaccines. Approaches discussed include putting a greater focus on the overall efficacy and benefit-risk of the combinations as a whole, rather than just the individual components. Irene Neumbe has dedicated herself to helping children in her community to live healthy lives. Deep in the hills of Sironko, Eastern Uganda, she visits homes, attends church gatherings, and speaks at community meetings to spread the word: #VaccinesSaveLives. With the support of PATH in Uganda, eight civil society organizations have deployed Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance funding across 39 districts to register households for vaccination, locate missed children, support school outreach, and build connections between schools and health facilities. This work depends on the tireless efforts of Village Health Team members like Irene, as well as health workers, parents, and caregivers as immunization champions. No mother should pass on a preventable infection. No child should start life at a disadvantage. It’s time to close the gaps. District inception meetings for the #SAFEStart+ project are ongoing in Kyotera, led by PATH with International Community of Women living with HIV Eastern Africa - ICWEA & The World Hepatitis Alliance & in collaboration with the Ministry of Health - Uganda. These meetings aim to introduce the SAFEStart+ project at district level & co-design implementation approaches with district stakeholders, ensuring district voices shape solutions that work. The project strengthens integrated services to eliminate mother-to-child transmission (EMTCT) of HIV, Hepatitis B, Syphilis, & Mpox protecting mothers, safeguarding babies, & advancing the goal of triple elimination. The project is supported by Unitaid, Saving Lives Faster. With help from PATH, CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) is establishing the Biospecimen Sourcing Initiative to create a faster, more consistent, more equitable, and easier-to-use system for collecting biological samples in an outbreak. Biospecimens from disease survivors are necessary for the rapid development of new vaccines, treatments, and diagnostics when an outbreak occurs. This initiative could make a vital contribution towards the #100DaysMission, a global goal spearheaded by CEPI to develop vaccines within just 100 days after a new virus is identified. Two PATH leaders have recently been recognized at the highest levels of science and global governance: Chief Scientific Officer Melanie Saville has been named Chair of the World Health Organization’s Product Development for Vaccines Advisory Committee (PDVAC). Chief AI Officer Bilal A Mateen has been appointed to the United Nations’ first Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence. At PATH, we have always believed that the best global health solutions are grounded in rigorous science and shaped by the communities they are meant for. These appointments reflect that commitment. Congratulations, Mel and Bilal! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gE64WtcC #VaccinesWork #AIForHealth #GlobalHealth

Vaccinating adolescent girls against HPV is one of the most effective ways to prevent #CervicalCancer from occurring when they reach adulthood. More than 150 countries worldwide have introduced HPV vaccine into their national immunization programs. There are several HPV vaccines to choose from on the global market, and some middle-income countries also have domestic products to consider. Our new HPV Vaccine Cost Calculator for Middle-Income Countries can help with vaccine decision-making, whether it’s for a product switch, schedule switch, or new introduction. ⏩ https://lnkd.in/gSpiQreb This Excel-based tool is available in English, French, or Spanish, and allows users to compare products and estimate vaccination program costs for up to four different products at once, including one fully customizable option. #VaccinesWork

Limited access to #MedicalOxygen hinders care for conditions like pneumonia, chronic respiratory diseases, and COVID-19. Today, 60% of the world’s population lacks access to safe and affordable medical oxygen. Improving access requires more than just the right equipment. Health workers need training to safely administer and monitor oxygen therapy, and biomedical engineers to operate and maintain respiratory care equipment and related devices. Many countries lack standardized curricula for both students and practicing health workers on the safe use, monitoring, and management of medical oxygen. PATH is addressing this gap by supporting the development and rollout of national training programs in countries such as Zambia, India, Vietnam, and the DRC: https://lnkd.in/gqXBx8eZ ✍️: Carolyn Hemminger 📸: A lecturer at Evelyn Hone College in Zambia demonstrates to biomedical engineering students how to connect a breathing circuit to respiratory care equipment. Congratulations to Prof. Bilal A Mateen, PATH's Chief AI Officer, on his appointment to the United Nations Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence. 🎉 The panel, the first fully independent global scientific body on AI, brings together 40 experts from every region to assess how AI is transforming economies and societies. Bilal was selected from more than 2,600 applicants through an open, merit-based process. At PATH, we believe AI has the potential to transform health care in the communities that need it most—but only if we build the evidence, regulation, and infrastructure to deploy it equitably. From the largest Phase 3 randomized controlled trial of AI clinical decision support in Africa to benchmarking studies published in Nature Health, our work is focused on moving AI from promise to patient outcomes. We look forward to Bilal bringing that frontline perspective into the global conversation on AI governance. #DigitalHealth #AIForHealth
