𝗜𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮 "𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝘆𝘁𝗵"? I often hear the same argument: "The manufacturing and disposal of wind turbines pollute more than the clean energy they generate." It sounds logical at first glance: huge steel towers, massive concrete bases, and complex composite blades don't just appear out of thin air. But when we look at the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the data tells a very different story. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀: 1️⃣ Energy Payback: A modern turbine "pays back" the energy used for its production within 6 to 9 months. Over its 25-year lifespan, it produces roughly 40x the energy invested. 2️⃣ CO2 Footprint: Wind energy emits only 11 to 15g of CO2 per kWh (including manufacturing). Compare that to coal (𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘹. 1000g) or gas (𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘹. 450g), and the winner is clear. 3️⃣ Circular Future: While blade recycling was a challenge, the industry is pivoting fast with 100% recyclable blade technology and innovative repurposing. A strong real‑world example of this repurposing is the 𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘳. In the Netherlands, decommissioned wind turbine blades are already being repurposed as highway noise barriers. A 60‑meter pilot installation along the A58 has shown acoustic performance comparable to conventional concrete barriers, while significantly reducing the use of virgin materials. Instead of becoming waste, turbine blades get a second life in critical infrastructure, extending their usefulness by decades and lowering the overall environmental footprint of wind energy even further. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝘁 Orise: This data-driven reality is exactly why we are fully committed to the energy transition.
