The New York Times and KFF Health News reports that Medicare is moving toward using AI-driven prior authorization in long-term and nursing home care, raising concerns that cost-cutting technology could delay or deny medically necessary care for older adults. Read full details and more on recent policy changes that will affect older people! Thanks to MSC's Patricia Hunter, Washington State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, for commenting and working tirelessly to protect and improve the rights of adults living in long-term care. https://lnkd.in/gHFBy-rj

Great news and thankful for our state's commitment to providing affordable housing!
We are thrilled to hear Governor Ferguson's historic investments in affordable housing and his executive order preparing for establishing a cabinet-level Department of Housing. Addressing our region's housing crisis requires we meet the moment with bold action, strong support, and urgency. We're grateful to the Governor for his leadership and commitment. https://lnkd.in/gXgtF2Yb

Exciting news! MSC and our housing development partner, Shelter Resources Inc., have been selected by Sound Transit to develop affordable housing on surplus property adjacent to their Federal Way Downtown Station! Our proposal includes building approximately 230 homes across two buildings in a four-block area adjacent to the station. Over 90% of homes proposed are two- to four-bedroom apartments, responding directly to the need for family-sized affordable homes in Federal Way. The housing units will be available for households meeting income eligibility of 60% AMI or below. Construction is planned to begin in 2028! We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support for our food bank in the last few weeks with food donations, food drives, monetary donations, and advocacy. You all are showing up for your neighbors in these times. While the government shutdown has ended, the impacts may be felt for many weeks to come. We also know that many of the funding sources we rely on may be at risk again in just a few months, including direct funding for our food bank, the LIHEAP energy assistance program, and potentially other programs. Each and every person can make a positive impact on their community, helping neighbors, donating time, food, money, or your talents, and advocating with their legislators for continued support for programs that serve our community.
