We’ve all been there. Your parent calls and says, “My screen suddenly went blank, what do I press?” You try to guide them over the phone… “Do you see a blue button? No, not that one, the other one!” And after 10 minutes, everyone’s frustrated. That’s why we built the Genie Assistant at MemoryLane. With just a single side button or shortcut, seniors can summon Genie AI — who can see what’s on their screen and gently guide them on what to do next. ✅ No confusing steps ✅ No need for remote control apps ✅ Just a friendly, on-screen helper that explains things simply Because sometimes, the best tech support for our parents… is one that’s right there with them. 💛 (Video demo below 👇)

Ever wonder why your parents love Candy Crush or those simple handphone games? They’re easy, rewarding, and give a small sense of achievement every day. We wondered about this too. So at MemoryLane, we designed a “game” built specifically for seniors: Daily Challenges. ✅ Unlike Candy Crush, the challenges evolve with each player. ✅ They fit naturally into a senior’s daily routine. ✅ They reward effort, not just luck. The result? Seniors stay mentally active, build healthy daily habits, and enjoy that same satisfying sense of achievement - but in ways that strengthen memory, connection, and confidence. Because sometimes, the best way to support our parents isn’t through complicated tech… It’s through small, joyful wins each day.

One of the hardest parts of living apart from aging parents isn’t the distance. It’s the uncertainty. Are they remembering their medication? Did they make it to their appointment? Are they sticking to their routines? We’ve heard from countless families that these questions weigh on them daily. And yet, the tools that exist today (tiny time pickers, confusing settings, endless buttons) were never designed for seniors. That’s why at MemoryLane, we built Reminders. Seniors can simply say: “Remind me to take my medication every day at 4pm.” And for children or caregivers, a quick WhatsApp message can set a reminder that appears instantly in their parents’ app. It’s tech that feels natural, not overwhelming.

MemoryLane’s events are getting bigger. Together with grassroot community centers, we hit full houses at our last two events in September: close to 200 attendees, including 60 youth volunteers. Word-of-mouth is kicking in: seniors are hearing about MemoryLane from friends and showing up to learn, connect, and get hands-on help. The unique angle here is that youths get to offer something that they are genuinely good at (tech) and seniors leave sincerely grateful. We’ll keep pushing to cross the chasm from early adopters to the everyday senior who needs us most. Huge thanks to Youth Corps Singapore for the collaboration and to People's Association for the trust. Onward. 🧡 (pictured is our head of product Joshua who did a wonderful job leading the sessions!) #DigitalCaregiver

Is leading a team of 10 easier than leading an organization of 10,000? Humbled and grateful to have been a panelist at the SCCCI Annual Conference, discussing the topic of leadership. To be honest - when I saw the lineup, I felt a touch of imposter syndrome. My fellow panelists were all top executives of organizations with thousands of employees: Wei Jia (HMI Medical) , Ley Hoon (CapitaLand Investment), and Ritwik (Jinko Power). And then there was me, founder of MemoryLane with a team of 10. But that contrast became the core of my message. The skills needed to inspire a small, agile team to build something from nothing are vastly different from those needed to steer a massive, established ship. MNC leadership is often about optimizing systems and navigating complexity. Startup leadership is more about building the plane while flying it, and hoping your team does not lose faith I had a fantastic time sharing the startup reality - the hustle, the speed, and the passion required to turn an idea into a reality. It turns out, that perspective was a unique and valuable part of the conversation. Thank you to Dr. Wilson Chew for moderating a brilliant session, my fellow panelists for the insights, and the wonderful Annie Koh, for giving me the platform! #leadership #startup #DigitalCaregiver

We’re honoured to be featured at the flagship SG60 Heart & Soul Experience 👏 Beyond its cutting-edge, GenAI-powered exhibits, Heart & Soul is special because it stays rooted in the stories it tells, including a spotlight on home-grown projects like MemoryLane. Our showcase is shaped like a book. That first “page” was how we started: using book-writing to help seniors capture their life stories. Since then, MemoryLane has continued to grow into a full-fledged companion that helps seniors discover and relive meaningful moments every day. Grateful to Gene Tan for the inclusion and Liana Gurung for partnering with us to make this happen. 🙏 If you’re in town, do check it out! It's in Orchard central till end of year. P.S. you'll need to book (free) tickets to enter. Link in comments #SG60 #SgHeartandSoul #DigitalCaregiver

Some scams looks so obvious, but yet they are still reaching many of us. Here in Singapore, we all know someone who has received a suspicious message or call. Despite massive top-down efforts from governments, telcos, and tech giants, the problem persists. Why? My experience working in anti-scams at WhatsApp & TikTok has shown me why: 1. Accuracy: At Whatsapp, when you have 2 billion users, a 1% error rate is 20 million false bans. They must err on the side of caution, letting "grey area" cases through. 2. Privacy: Governments and large social media firms constantly wrestle with privacy concerns. When I was working at Whatsapp, we only access to selected metadata. 3. Adversarial: For every filter we build, scammers will find a workaround. Just as my job was fighting them, their job was fighting us. The scammers are relentless entrepreneurs, innovators, constantly adapting their social engineering to bypass our best technical defenses. Sometimes I almost respect their ingenuity. Today, MemoryLane supports the most vulnerable in our society. We focus on helping seniors handle the cases where we have 30-98% confidence it's a scam, cases which are out of reach of platforms and government efforts (due to the accuracy traps). It acts as a real-time guide that sits on the screen, analyzing the context of a conversation, pattern match against online case studies and providing simple, clear advice to help seniors recognize suspicious requests themselves. Beyond the AI Hype - Discussing challenges in bringing AI to seniors Honoured to have shared the stage at the DBS Bank Annual "Managing Through Journeys" Conference to share a topic I'm passionate about: the intersection of AI and eldercare. While the other conference segments are dominated by ROI and futuristic capabilities, our panel took a more grounded perspective. We dove into the real-world challenges of making AI accessible, trustworthy, and truly useful for our end users (seniors). We went in-depth into not just about what AI can do, but how we can bridge the gap to those who stand to benefit most. On a personal note, a huge thank you to my incredible co-panelists, Aaron Yeo and Jer Yaw. I tried to improvise my intro and completely fumbled it. Without missing a beat, they guided me back on track with supportive questions. Was a truly fruitful experience! ------- MemoryLane is in early access!
