Last week in Altadena, we installed a home for Rosalina. She lost her home in the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. Her insurance had been canceled months before the fire, leaving her without a clear path to rebuild when everything was lost. Through our partnership with Steadfast LA, Samara built and installed a new home for Rosalina at no profit and at no cost to her. From permit approval to installation took 34 days. This work reflects months of effort across design, engineering, manufacturing, construction, and coordination with our partners. This installation is the first of several we will complete this year. Our focus is on supporting underinsured homeowners who want to return to their properties and rebuild their communities. Rebuilding after a disaster is a deeply personal decision. We stepped up by doing what we know how to do—designing and building homes—to support that decision. We know the real work belongs to the people who choose to come back and start again. Welcome home, Rosalina.

About us
Samara is on a mission to transform the way we live, starting with the home. Samara makes it easy to get an accessory dwelling unit (or ADU). Our first product, Backyard, is a compact, flexible living space that fits your yard and helps you get the most out of your home, giving homeowners more room for whatever they need—be it an in-law suite, home office, or rental unit. Founded in 2016 as a research and innovation team within Airbnb, Samara is now an independent company backed by leading venture and corporate investors.

Over 50 Samara ADUs will soon land in existing multifamily communities owned by Prometheus Real Estate Group. With SB 1211 in place, adding new homes on underused land is easier than ever for owners and operators who want to grow supply without the cost and complexity of ground-up development. ADUs on multifamily sites continue to stand out for their efficiency: low friction to approve and install, strong economics, and meaningful upside in net operating income and asset value. This first phase spans five Prometheus properties, with homes built in our factory and installed with minimal site disruption. Samara CEO Mike McNamara spoke with HousingWire about the opportunity. Today: We’ve raised $34M in Series B to scale up. $100M+ in booked projects over the past year. Two factories running. We’ve launched projects in 45 cities across California, serving homeowners and multifamily operators alike, and partnered with Steadfast LA to donate units to wildfire survivors in Los Angeles. Axios’ Dan Primack called it a BFD in his Pro Rata newsletter. Read the details here: https://lnkd.in/d5_2R-dH

Last week, we hosted Congressman Sam Liccardo in our Redwood City showroom as he introduced the bipartisan SUPPLY Act: legislation that would enable federally backed financing for ADUs. Financing is one of the biggest barriers to ADU construction. Over a year ago, we launched our own financing solution with competitive rates to help homeowners purchase Samara ADUs. In a statewide survey we ran, one in five Californians named it the number one thing that prevented them from building an ADU. Rep. Liccardo has been a leading voice in the ADU movement, from his time as mayor of San Jose to his work now in Congress. We’re glad to see public sector support that helps more homeowners create housing and harness the full potential of their properties. Thanks to Rep. Liccardo and the Casita Coalition for driving this forward!
ICYMI: I just introduced the bipartisan SUPPLY Act to help homeowners become part of the solution to our housing crisis. I first proposed this idea in my book—and now, we’re turning it into action. Finding common ground with common-sense policy is how we will get it done.
