About us
Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is one of the largest statewide nonprofit social service organizations in Minnesota with more than 2,500 team members serving in all 87 counties and beyond. Our services support children, youth and families, people with identified needs, older adults, and veterans. LSS of MN is committed to the vision that all people have the opportunity to live and work in community with full and abundant lives. Our mission is to express the love of Christ for all people through service that inspires hope, changes lives and builds communities. Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota traces its history to 1865 when a Lutheran congregation near Red Wing opened its doors to care for four orphaned children. Today, the organization serves one in 63 Minnesotans annually through a wide variety of services. These include adoption and foster care, financial counseling, behavioral health services, support for veterans, services for youth experiencing homelessness, guardianship options, caregiver support, community residential services for individuals with identified needs and more. LSS of MN’s overarching goal is to meet our neighbors where they are and help them remove barriers so that they can live lives of dignity and self-reliance. We are also proud to have a mission for our team members: to provide deeply meaningful work, an opportunity for each person’s gifts to shine and grow, and support for abundant and balanced lives. If you want a career that challenges, energizes and rewards you, consider joining us! Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is a welcoming organization offering employment opportunities and support for all people. - We strive to maintain a safe and productive social media environment for all people. Another Door, a Lutheran Social Service longer-term emergency youth shelter in Duluth, opened in a new expanded space at Peace United Church of Christ just over a year ago — and the results are remarkable! With ability to serve up to 10 youth at a time, we are thrilled to report that over the past year, 31 youth have not only received safe housing but also a continuum of care with a stronger focus on independent living skills and employment. With this essential support, 23 youth have either reunited with their families or moved to transitional or permanent housing while others continue working with our team. “This project is a wonderful example of the amazing good that comes when public partners, faith communities and social service organizations lean into what we can each offer to improve well-being for our neighbors,” said Dawn, senior director of family services and Duluth Area youth services.

Staying connected, getting help with errands and having reliable transportation make a big difference for older adults. LSS Senior Companion volunteers in North Dakota help make that possible every day. LSS Senior Companion volunteers, age 55 and older, share their time and talents — enhancing the lives of older adults to assist them in staying active, healthy and remaining independent. We’re grateful to Minot Area Community Foundation, Souris Valley United Way and Williston Basin United Way for grant awards that help LSS strengthen support for older neighbors across North Dakota. The grant awards will be used to reimburse volunteers for their travel while volunteering. Thank you! ➡️ Learn more about LSS Senior Companion Services: https://lnkd.in/g4rmS-fj
