🎙️ Brittany, Program Director for Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent services, recently shared on the radio how serving as a Foster Grandparent Volunteer or Senior Companion Volunteer benefits both volunteers and those they serve. ➡️ Listen to the segment and get inspired: https://lnkd.in/gn5hMdGY Foster Grandparent Volunteers, age 55 and older, provide one-to-one support and mentorship for children and youth. Senior Companion Volunteers, also age 55 and older, provide friendship, non-medical support and transportation for older adults.

Another Door, a Lutheran Social Service longer-term emergency youth shelter in Duluth, opened in a new expanded space at Peace United Church of Christ just over a year ago — and the results are remarkable! With ability to serve up to 10 youth at a time, we are thrilled to report that over the past year, 31 youth have not only received safe housing but also a continuum of care with a stronger focus on independent living skills and employment. With this essential support, 23 youth have either reunited with their families or moved to transitional or permanent housing while others continue working with our team. “This project is a wonderful example of the amazing good that comes when public partners, faith communities and social service organizations lean into what we can each offer to improve well-being for our neighbors,” said Dawn, senior director of family services and Duluth Area youth services.

Staying connected, getting help with errands and having reliable transportation make a big difference for older adults. LSS Senior Companion volunteers in North Dakota help make that possible every day. LSS Senior Companion volunteers, age 55 and older, share their time and talents — enhancing the lives of older adults to assist them in staying active, healthy and remaining independent. We’re grateful to Minot Area Community Foundation, Souris Valley United Way and Williston Basin United Way for grant awards that help LSS strengthen support for older neighbors across North Dakota.
