This week, the LoopX team, together with the Cementation Americas team, successfully completed the installation and testing of our AI-powered Collision Avoidance System (CAS) across multiple pieces of mining equipment — now ready for commissioning on a mine site to enhance safety.
I’m proud of the team’s professionalism in delivering and supporting our technology in complex operating environments, turning cutting-edge innovation into real on-site value.
This year, we are accelerating the build-out of a stronger, more professional team to elevate our product delivery and site support — because in mining, execution matters.
Creating new ways through insight, cross-industry partnerships and collaboration - that was the heart of this year's BHP Invent Ecosystem event at PDAC 2026.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Toronto. I genuinely enjoyed reconnecting with the North American innovation ecosystem - innovators, researchers, partners, investors, and peers, all bringing diverse capabilities to tackle some of mining's most complex challenges.
Every time we come to PDAC, our ecosystem grows stronger. These conversations deepen existing partnerships and, importantly, enable new ones - helping ideas move from insight, to validation, to real-world impact.
Last year we launched our OreBody Knowledge Challenge at PDAC, connecting with 90 organisations across North America - including 37 in Canada. We're now working with 53 North American companies, including our eight OBK finalists: Strayos, Southern Innovation, Geopyora, Spectral Industries, MinersAI, Vibrometric, IMDEX and ThingWave.
Throughout the event, it was great to have examples of early engagement and commitment to long term collaboration - not merely purchasing technology at the end of its development but actively partnering with others to transform promising ideas into scalable technologies that can benefit the entire industry.
Innovation accelerates when we work at the intersections — connecting deep operational problems to solutions from across sectors, disciplines and continents. The breakthroughs ahead won't come from mining alone, but from the collective brilliance of robotics engineers, AI innovators, geoscientists, OEMs, start-ups and universities united in reimagining what's possible.
I'm excited about what we'll build together next.
Thank you to our incredible speakers, panel facilitators and curators

I am excited to share a first look at the new UI for the LoopX Collision Avoidance System (CAS) 👀
What’s different?
This UI is built on our industry-first approach, fusing Vision AI, LiDAR, RF, and IMU data into a single, unified CAS interface.
A few highlights:
🔹 Vision first, with context
Clear visual awareness that’s intuitive and easy to interpret in real time.
🔹 LiDAR + IMU with speed & distance intelligence
Enhanced precision to better differentiate real collision risk—reducing unnecessary alerts while maintaining safety.
🔹 RF integration for around-corner awareness
Detect personnel and vehicles beyond line of sight, including blind corners.
This update is directly shaped by feedback from our clients. Continuous improvement is core to how we build, and we’re grateful for the insights that keep pushing us to do better.
And this is just the beginning—many more user-friendly features will be shared soon. As always, we welcome more advice from across the industry. If you’ve got thoughts, we’re listening.
Safety tech ecosystems
There are big changes in how mines are looking at safety related tech like #collisionavoidance & #fatiguemonitoring – the industry has woken up to the power of integration. This article looks at how this evolution is happening, plus the potential of #AI in analysing the combined data. We begin with our usual #SouthAfrica#CAS update and a review of the current regulatory, implementation & testing situation from Kobus Blomerus at SECDI - Safety Engineering Competency Development Institute and Herman Hamersma at the University of Pretoria. Then Booyco Electronics CEO Anton Lourens emphasises that successful adoption requires full leadership commitment and cross-functional collaboration. Then we talked to Wabtec Corporation's Mitch Tanzer, Global Commercial Director, about its Gen 3 CAS & specifically its new Portal back office software solution. We also talked to LoopX CEO Chao Yu, PhD about its approach to delivering advanced collision avoidance, #situationalawareness & productivity analytics solutions via a unified physical AI platform. Becker Mining Systems AG Systems’ PDS4.0 combines active RFID tech with advanced zone-based detection logic. Fatigue Science’s #Readi platform is one tool being used in mining, which combines sleep science, schedule modelling, and AI to show where and when fatigue risk may appear. Sandvik’s CAS focus today has pivoted to offering scalable safety solutions for underground mining operations. We spoke to Tal Zarum - GM at #Newtrax. We also caught up with Gert Venter, GM at Strata Worldwide, to discuss the company’s evolution beyond standalone safety products to a fully unified operational platform. For more information on Hexagon Mining's CAS and #OAS integration and the wider significance, IM spoke to its Principal Advisor, Josh Savit and Adrian Heieis, Global Product Manager. And we talked to Schalk Janse van Rensburg, General Manager, Epiroc Digital Safety Solutions to understand the progress with its current #TitanCAS both underground and surface along with its future roadmap. Wenco International Mining Systems's Emily Tetzlaff, PhD, Principal Scientist, EHS talked about how its #SmartCap fatigue management solution is part of a comprehensive mining technology portfolio. As part of its growing offering of solutions to mining customers, Fast2Mine has launched a new Anti-Fatigue & Collision Control module. Spain-headquartered TORSA’s CAS and anti-fatigue systems it says have become established as complementary solutions. Innovative Wireless Technologies (IWT) outlines developments with its Guardian™ Proximity System. Optalert, another leader in fatigue & driver impairment monitoring, has launched #EagleInsights, a new #AIpowered platform that redefines how fleet managers in high risk industries manage driver safety & compliance. Lastly a review of how Caterpillar Inc.’s #MineStar™ #DriverSafetySystem (DSS) was deployed by Mantrac Group at Barrick's North Mara.
