I had the pleasure of taking part in a fascinating and mind-expanding conversation with Yoshua Bengio, who is leading one of the most important and forward-looking new initiatives in the development of a safe-by-design AI: LawZero. Joining us were Yuval Noah Harari, who has taken on a directorial role in this initiative, along with a remarkable team of some of LawZero’s brightest AI researchers (Damiano Fornasier, Catherine R. Saine, Iulian Serban, Jonathan Barry). Our discussion focused on profound questions: how do we address the growing challenge of reliability, including critical issues like bias and agency? What is at stake is not only building more powerful systems, but also developing AI that could serve as a trusted point of reference.
