Earth Day’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet” reminds us that real environmental progress starts locally. At Humanim, we care for the planet through everyday action. Our sister nonprofit iHomes builds sustainable, modular homes for individuals with disabilities, and our Meaningful Day Program supports clean-up in the community through volunteering and trips to the recycling center. Together, we’re protecting the places that we call home. #EarthDay #HumanPurpose #HumanImpact

Thank you to Caring Communities for hosting us at the World of Possibilities Expo this past weekend! The event brought together the disability community, families, caregivers, service providers, and supporting agencies under one roof to connect and share the infinite possibilities for individuals with disabilities to thrive. Humanim proudly provided Sign Language Interpreters for the expo, and our Youth Transition Services (YTS) team hosted a booth where youth and their families explored career paths and opportunities to get started on their vocational journeys. We’re grateful to be part of such an inspiring event and look forward to continuing this important work alongside our community partners.

This #AutismAcceptanceMonth, we are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of Humanim participants who are growing their skills and building confidence as they prepare for rewarding futures. Meet Liam, a senior at Coppin Academy and a participant in Humanim’s Work-Based Learning Experience. During his internship with our employer partner, CVS Pharmacy, Liam consistently impressed everyone he worked alongside through his commitment and positive attitude. The recent tragedy involving Alex LaMorie in Howard County is a heartbreaking reminder that awareness of Autism alone is insufficient. At Humanim, we are grateful for advocacy of our board members and their commitment to developing partnerships and safety nets for individuals experiencing crisis. We are thankful for the many partners, stakeholders and providers in Howard County that work tirelessly to create a system of care for all residents. We would like to share the recent op-ed from Humanim board members Melanie Lundquist and Jim Cook. Together we can turn this moment into action. https://lnkd.in/eqhMJngv

We are proud to celebrate our Chief Operating Officer, April Taylor, for being recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by The Daily Record. The honor spotlights women across the state who drive impact through exceptional leadership, community service and mentorship. Dr. Redonda Miller, President of JHH, praises April for her transformative and visionary leadership. “Her superpower is her ability to listen and relate to the frontline, then translate words into action. She is steadfast in her commitment to advancing our legacy of excellence, to mentoring the next generation of healthcare leaders, and consistently advances initiatives that raise the standard of care at hospitals and health systems nationwide,” Dr. Miller said. Congratulations to April – we are fortunate to have her as part of the hospital leadership team.

Access to housing plays an important role in supporting strong, connected communities. In recognition of National Community Development (NCD) Week—led by the National Community Development Association (NCDA)—we recognize the impact of federal programs like the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program. These programs provide funding to local communities to support affordable housing, infrastructure improvements, and services that strengthen neighborhoods. iHomes, Humanim’s sister organization, is proud to partner in this work—developing and managing affordable housing that supports independence and long-term stability for people with developmental and psychiatric disabilities. Today we’re recognizing #AutismAwarenessDay. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 in 127 people worldwide are diagnosed with Autism. That means many individuals in our community continue to face stigma and barriers to the care and support they need. Today, we honor differences and commit to spreading acceptance and understanding for people with Autism, every day. #ASD #CelebrateDifferences #DevelopmentalDisabilities #HumanPurpose #HumanImpact
