HPCMP users: Save the date for the 2026 User Group Meeting! This year's event will be held September 1-3 at the University of Dayton Research Institute in Dayton, OH. Hosted by the Air Force Research Laboratory DSRC, the 2026 UGM will provide an opportunity for users to present and learn about the latest high-impact work supported by the program. HPCMP personnel will also discuss current and future priorities as the program continues to enable the science and technology, test and evaluation, and acquisition engineering communities. UGM will also have a virtual attendance option via Microsoft Teams. We hope to see you in Dayton this September!

Applications are open for HPCMP’s Summer 2026 HPC Internship Program (HIP)! HIP is a ten-week, paid internship opportunity for college and graduate students in STEM disciplines with an interest in high-performance computing. The goal of program is to foster greater Department of War and academic collaboration, enhance research capabilities, and encourage broader university-level participation in high-end computing. Selected participants will: -Learn from and collaborate with scientists and engineers across the Department -Contribute to significant Research, Development, Test, Evaluation & Acquisitions Engineering activities -Develop critical skills and establish long-term connections -Gain a competitive advantage and improve long-term career opportunities A list of this summer’s internship opportunities can be found at https://lnkd.in/g9RJRZMH. The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) held a moving ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newest HPCMP supercomputer, Barfoot, last week. The new system, named for Mississippi-born Medal of Honor recipient Col. Van T. Barfoot, is located at HPCMP’s ERDC DoD Supercomputing Resource Center in Vicksburg, MS. This 9 petaflop HPC serves a critical role supporting the United States Department of War’s scientists and engineers as they solve some of our nation’s greatest computational challenges. “These supercomputers are very important to the future and defense of the country,” said Mr. Kelly Dalton, director of the HPCMP. “This is truly an investment in our security, our prosperity and the future of our great nation." We are thankful to all who were able to join us in dedicating this HPC and remembering an American hero, including multiple members of the Barfoot family, government and industry partners, and the ERDC and Vicksburg communities. HPCMP announces its newest supercomputing system, Barfoot! The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) DoD Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC) in Vicksburg, Mississippi brought Barfoot into production service earlier this fall, helping us solve some of our nation’s most complex computational challenges. Barfoot, named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient and Mississippi native Col. Van. T. Barfoot, bolsters HPCMP’s ability to support the warfighter by minimizing cost, time, and risk in the research and development, test and evaluation, and acquisition engineering processes. This system is the fourth HPC at the ERDC DSRC named after Mississippi-born Medal of Honor recipients. The others were named for Marine Lance Cpl. Kyle Carpenter, Marine Lance Cpl. Roy Wheat and Army Capt. Ed Freeman. To learn more about Col. Today at #SC25, HPCMP will be creating connections through our Birds of a Feather (BOF) event, “Engaging the DOD HPCMP”, starting at 12:15 p.m. in room 231-232. Program leadership will share updates including recent successes, new supercomputing systems, software development, and our future efforts.
