2025 marked 20 years of inno-spec GmbH – two decades of seeing beyond the visible. 🙌 A year of milestones, innovation, and partnership. And above all: a year of people who make clarity possible – in research, in production, in every decision that matters. As we close this chapter, we want to say thank you – to everyone who’s been part of our journey.🥾 Together, we’ve turned vision into insight, and technology into real-world progress – one spectrum at a time. As the year comes to a close, we look back on a busy and impactful year shaped by collaboration, progress, and new opportunities. We would like to thank our customers and partners for being part of our journey and for their continued trust and partnership. 🤝 This year also marked the start of a joint journey with our new colleagues from Headwall, inno-spec GmbH, perClass BV, and Holographix LLC. 🌱 Reflecting on 2025 at the USyd APPN node 📆 Back in January, we were still establishing ourselves as a new field node of the Australian Plant Phenomics Network. This week, we finish the year fully staffed and operational – ready to support diverse research needs at the University of Sydney and beyond. 🤝 I’m most proud of the team we’ve built: a close-knit group with complementary skills who genuinely enjoy working together. Connor Cassidy and Bryn Collyer have been the heartbeat of our field operations, while Arden Burrell and Richard Harwood have led data science capability from the Core Research Facilities | University of Sydney Sydney Informatics Hub. 🙌 Special thanks to Kristy Faris and Michele Collins for keeping us organised and connected across Narrabri and Sydney. 🎓 We’ve also supported emerging careers: William Faris joined as a research assistant after graduating high school in Narrabri, we wish him well in his studies at ANU next year; PhD student Harry Paine became our first APPN Postgraduate Internship Awardee; Owen Williams worked closely with our team on his Honours project; and several student interns gained hands-on work experience in Narrabri with us. 🌏 Collaboration has been key. We worked with other APPN nodes in the Field Phenotyping Expert Working Group coordinated by Trevor Garnett and across seven Strategic Initiative Fund projects with the likes of Nik Callow, Daniel Smith, Nelson West, Bettina Berger and Hammad Khan – pooling expertise and delivering phenomics capability for national priorities. 📊 This year, our node supported 15 projects funded by Grains Research and Development Corporation, Meat & Livestock Australia, ARC and others - a fantastic achievement for our first full year of operation. These projects span diverse crops, agroecological systems and research challenges, and we’re proud to play our role in enabling impact for Australian agriculture. 🔧 Deploying new infrastructure remained a big focus: LI-COR gas exchange systems, soil sampling and sensing tools, root imaging instruments and, of course, our new UAV platforms with GRYFN, Headwall and Ouster sensors. Next year, thermal imagery is in our sights with an ITRES cryo-cooled thermal line scanner on order. 🎉 We capped the year with some great celebrations last week: a Japanese culinary experience as a node team in Sydney on Wednesday evening, barefoot bowls with our Sydney Informatics Hub colleagues on Thursday, and karaoke with the researchers we support in SIA Sydney on Friday afternoon. 🙏 Thank you to this amazing team, APPN colleagues nationwide, and all the researchers we support.
