  • For many First Nations peoples, conducting or receiving a Welcome to Country is an important cultural practice that has been maintained by First Nations people for thousands of years. A Welcome to Country is an important reminder that we all live on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lands and is a mark of respect for Country, Elders, Traditional Owners and Culture.   Here at headspace, we remain committed to supporting the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and to creating spaces where culture is recognised, respected and valued. We know that a strong sense of identity, Culture and belonging is central to social and emotional wellbeing. When Culture is not respected, it can have a deep impact on how young people see themselves and their place in the world.   To any First Nations young people who feel hurt, frustrated, upset or affected by the booing during the Welcome to Country at some ANZAC Day services, we see you. Your Culture is something to be proud of, and it deserves to be respected. If you or anyone you know needs support or someone to yarn with, you can always call 13YARN or Lifeline for crisis support, or reach out to headspace via the link: https://lnkd.in/grvyAYp5

A royal moment for youth mental health 👑 Today, headspace South Melbourne had the privilege of hosting King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark. Together with our CEO, Jason Trethowan, we discussed the growing need for mental health and wellbeing support among young people. With 49% of Australians aged 12-25 experiencing high levels of psychological distress, this visit couldn’t be more timely. During their time with us, Their Majesties learned about the work we’re doing to destigmatise help-seeking behaviour as well as our evidence-based initiatives, including the ‘7 tips for a healthy headspace,’ which promote simple ways to improve mental health and wellbeing, like staying active and nurturing relationships. The visit also highlighted the importance of involving young people in key policy decisions, something we proudly shared as part of Australia’s journey to adopt social media restrictions for under-16-year-olds. This royal visit reminds us all: conversations around mental health are for everyone, no matter your age or background. Thank you to Their Majesties for helping shine a light on the importance of youth mental health. 💚 Tamsin Short, Access Health and Community

At headspace, we recently held an inspiring fireside chat that brought attention to advancing gender equity. Last Thursday, International Women’s Day set the stage for a meaningful dialogue featuring Michelle Sheppard (affectionately known as “Mama Mish”) and CEO Jason Trethowan. Together, they explored tangible ways to encourage inclusivity, inspire change, and provide meaningful support to women and young girls. Important conversations like these propel our efforts forward, advancing equity both within headspace and in the wider world.

headspace National is proud to announce that it has achieved Rainbow Tick accreditation, a nationally recognised symbol of inclusive practice for organisations that demonstrate cultural safety and support for the LGBTIQA+ community. 🏳️🌈 Created by Rainbow Health Victoria and independently assessed by Quality Innovation Performance Limited (QIP), Rainbow Tick accreditation recognises organisations that meet rigorous national standards for inclusive, affirming and culturally safe services and workplaces.  For headspace National, this achievement reflects the work of many across the organisation who have contributed to creating safe, respectful and welcoming environments for LGBTIQA+ young people, family, staff and communities we support. “This achievement is a credit to the hard work of all headspace staff in helping shape a workplace where everyone can feel safe, supported and valued. Rainbow Tick accreditation is a testament to the inclusive culture that headspace continues to build.” - Nicole Harvey, Executive Director People and Culture  To learn more, read the complete media release here: https://lnkd.in/gjFRm4g7 #RainbowTick #Inclusion #Diversity #LGBTIQA
