Fixing a system means confronting the uncomfortable truth - not everyone benefits from change. Host Fran Racioppi spoke with Secretary of Veteran Affairs Doug Collins to take a hard look at the challenges inside the Veterans Health Administration. He says the mission is clear, deliver results for Veterans - but the path to getting there is often met with resistance. The Secretary points out a difficult reality: some have become comfortable operating within a broken system. Whether it’s chasing bigger budgets, protecting headcount, or fueling narratives that generate attention, those incentives can stand in the way of meaningful reform. Efforts to streamline processes, modernize electronic health records, and improve speed of care have faced pushback, not because they don’t work, but because change disrupts the status quo. Meanwhile, terms like “privatization” are often used to create friction rather than drive solutions. Watch, listen, or read our full conversation with Secretary of Veteran Affairs Doug Collins. The Green Beret Foundation is proud to stand alongside the Veterans Alliance for Leadership, Outreach, and Recovery (VALOR), a national coalition working to advance safe, evidence-based, medically supervised treatments for veterans and service members living with PTSD, TBI, and related conditions. This recent executive order is a meaningful step forward in accelerating research, expanding access, and removing barriers to innovative care for those who have served. For too many veterans and military families, the battle does not end when they return home. They deserve access to every responsible, science-backed path toward healing. As Charles Iacono, MBA, President & CEO of the Green Beret Foundation, shared in the article: “We are committed to making sure the promise of this moment is carried all the way through to the soldiers and families who need it most.” Read more here: https://bit.ly/4tg2H1b #GreenBeretFoundation #VALOR #VeteranMentalHealth #PTSD #TBI #Veterans #MilitaryFamilies #MentalWellness #StrengtheningMindBodyandSpirit

Fran Racioppi sat down with Secretary of Veteran Affairs Doug Collins to discuss the reality and future of the Department of Veterans Affairs as the largest integrated healthcare system in the United States. While the scale is undeniable, the Secretary is clear, the VA must operate at a level that reflects that position. Beyond internal improvements, the vision is bigger. A VA where Veterans are proud to receive their care. A system so effective that even those outside it recognize its quality. And a workplace that attracts top-tier doctors, nurses, and professionals who want to be part of something operating at the highest level. That means investing in the best equipment, modernizing systems, and building processes that deliver consistent, high-quality care across the entire enterprise. The goal isn’t just to maintain size, it’s to lead. Watch, listen, or read our full conversation with Secretary of Veteran Affairs Doug Collins. Rumors move fast, especially when they involve something as critical as Veteran care. But not every headline reflects reality. Secretary of Veteran Affairs Doug Collins joined Fran Racioppi to address one of the most persistent claims surrounding the Department of Veterans Affairs: privatization. The answer is direct, there are no plans to privatize the VA, and no structural pathway exists to make that happen. As the only department mandated by Congress to provide healthcare and benefits to Veterans, the VA isn’t going anywhere. While the way care is delivered continues to evolve, including expanded community care options, the mission remains the same: serve those who served. In an environment where misinformation spreads quickly, the Secretary makes it clear that not every narrative deserves attention. The focus stays on execution, delivering care, improving systems, and ensuring Veterans receive the support they’ve earned. When it comes to disability evaluations, clarity matters. Especially for service members transitioning out of uniform and into the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs system. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins addressed what’s actually happening inside the evaluation process. From his perspective the core system hasn’t changed. He says disability ratings are still based on establishing a baseline condition and measuring the level of impairment. He says, what's changing is efficiency and the VA is working to reduce unnecessary Compensation & Pension exams by relying more on existing medical records and cutting redundancy while maintaining accuracy. His goal is to streamline the process without sacrificing fairness. He says every Veteran is evaluated the same way, based on their documented conditions, not external factors or shifting policies. In today’s information environment, perception can spread faster than truth. And when it comes to Veteran benefits, misinformation doesn’t just confuse, it creates real concern. Host Fran Racioppi joined the Secretary of Veteran Affairs, Doug Collins, to address the claims surrounding disability benefits and set the record straight. What was framed as cuts to benefits was, in reality, an attempt to clarify guidance based on court decisions. There was no intent to reduce benefits, no plan to strip existing disability ratings, and no effort to force Veterans off care or medication. But in a landscape driven by headlines and social media reactions, that message was quickly distorted. The Secretary makes it clear: Veterans who already have ratings are protected, and the VA’s mission remains unchanged. The VT Finals event in Corpus Christi this weekend was the culmination of this season-long campaign and our latest collaboration with the Green Beret Foundation, and we're thankful to Olivia Donovan, MBA and the rest of the GBF team for their continued partnership. We're proud to support the GBF mission! Huge thank you to Tianna Long and Kitt Livingston for representing GOVX in Texas, and Riley Boggan, Robert Simpson, and the rest of the PBR team for another great year!
