Three people with three completely different takes on AI in recruitment, and somehow we all landed on the same truth. We were on a planning call for our webinar this Wednesday, on April 15th and I'm genuinely so excited about this one because the conversation we just had was nothing like the usual "AI is coming for your jobs" panic or "AI will save X in recruitment" hype. Jo Ingold has been researching the intersection of HR management and public policy for years, and listening to her connect those dots to what's happening with AI right now was eye-opening. Christopher White from Pay Australia Pty Ltd came in with a completely different angle. His point wasn't about tools or efficiency; it was about what recruiters should actually be doing with the time AI gives back. Stop being a vendor taking job orders and become a strategic talent partner who understands your client's business deeply enough to actually advise them. That shift changes everything. And my piece is the brand and marketing reality nobody wants to talk about. While everyone's automating their processes, they're also accidentally automating their brand voice into generic, forgettable content that sounds exactly like everyone else's AI-generated output. You can be efficient and invisible at the same time. This was just some of the things we covered. The webinar is called "Hiring Beyond the Algorithm: Rehumanising Recruitment" hosted by David Barron from Uknowwho this Wednesday, April 15th. We're covering AI's current role in recruitment, what happens when automation reaches its limits, human-centered hiring strategies, and how to use AI without losing the authenticity that actually builds trust with candidates and clients. If you're in recruitment or HR and trying to figure out how AI fits without turning everything into a transaction, this conversation is for you. AI is changing recruitment marketing faster than most agencies realise and not in the way you'd think. Every agency I'm working with right now is asking about AI and a lot for content creation, which makes sense. But here's what's actually happening that matters more: Candidates are using AI to polish their applications, which means every CV looks perfect on paper and every cover letter hits all the right keywords. So the old screening methods don't work anymore. (Plus the use of AI Recommendation Poisoning - Manipulating AI memory to recommend yourself) Then we have clients using AI to research agencies before they ever reach out, which means your brand presence (or lack of it) is being evaluated before you even know they're looking. And search behavior is shifting. People aren't just Googling "recruitment agency Melbourne" anymore, they're asking AI tools "who's the best specialist recruiter for tech roles in Sydney" and if you're not showing up in those results, you're invisible. The agencies adapting fastest aren't the ones using AI to pump out more content, they're the ones understanding how AI is changing how candidates and clients find and evaluate them in the first place. Marketing in 2026 isn't about doing more, it's about showing up in the places and ways people are actually looking now. Quick question, how are you seeing AI impact the way clients or candidates find you?

One common thing I keep hearing in the recruitment industry: when you ask what makes you different, they all say the same things. Here's how it usually goes: Me: "What makes you different from other agencies?" Them: "We really care about our people." Me: "Okay, but so does everyone else. What actually sets you apart?" Them: "...we have great relationships and we don't just put anyone in a role." You can't build a memorable brand when you don't know what makes you memorable. Most agencies want to skip this work and go straight to chucking a logo up and start billing. But here's the thing: if we remove the margins, why would someone pick you over your competitor? You might get some quick wins, but you'll get lost in the crowd of agencies doing the same thing. The ones who took the time to figure out their positioning, what actually makes them different, and how they prove it in the way they show up? Those are the agencies getting the long-term wins. Positioning isn't just marketing talk, it's what stops you from competing on price and looking like everyone else. Can you actually answer what makes your agency different without using the words every other agency uses?

  • Gorilla came to us knowing they needed a refresh but not wanting to lose what made them, well, Gorilla. Same team, same focus on relationships, just a look and feel that matched where they are now versus where they started. We worked with them to refine their positioning, develop a brand identity that feels professional without losing personality, and build a brand that communicates what makes them different in the payroll space. The best client relationships are the ones where the values are already strong and the story is already there. We just help bring it to the surface in a way that connects with the right people. Congratulations to the Gorilla team on 10 years and here's to the next chapter. If you're a business in recruitment services looking for a brand refresh that doesn't erase what makes you different, let's talk. At the end of last year, we celebrated our 10 year anniversary, and we thought we might as well treat ourselves. So we did. To a brand refresh! New look and feel but same Gorilla. Same team, same service, same focus on accuracy, relationships and partnerships. What started as a small specialist provider has now become a trusted partner for agencies across Australia. And our new refresh reflects that evolution. Thank you to the clients who have backed us for a decade and helped shape who we are. And thank you to our team, who have helped us grow and continue to show up with the right values and mission. This next chapter is for all of you. And for the next wave of agencies that want a payroll partner they can rely on. Here is to another ten years and more. You can explore the new site at gorillapayroll.com.au A big shout-out to Emma Pinyon at Good Moves AU for working with us on the brand refresh, and then to Jess Miller at zero:hour agency for bringing our new website to life! We couldn't be happier

New term just dropped: "Job Hugging" Basically, people are clinging to their current roles like it's the last lifeboat on the Titanic. Can't really blame them when every second headline is about tight budgets and "efficiency measures" But here's what this means for recruitment agencies: The challenge: Your perfect candidate exists, they're just too scared to leave their current role. The opportunity: When they DO decide to move, they'll be looking for: - Clear career progression (not just "opportunities to grow,” I mean show me the roadmap) - Job security (show me the numbers, the stability etc) - Culture that doesn't suck (hybrid policies that actually work and managers who genuinely care) So if you're hiring right now, you need to sell the STABILITY and the GROWTH (read: you don’t need to sell the ping pong table). Sell the reason someone should risk leaving their comfort zone. Because the job huggers are going to start job hunting eventually, so make sure you're ready with something worth leaving for. What are you seeing out there?

We’ve been quietly working on something BIG over the break, and we’re excited to share it with our network today. It's our new brand refresh. Perth’s legal market continues to evolve, and so do we. The legal profession deserves recruitment that is thoughtful, considered and built on real understanding. Our new brand reflects our purpose more clearly, with a visual identity and voice that expresses who we are, how we work, and the value we bring to firms and legal professionals alike. The refresh is not about change for its own sake. It’s about clarity, communication, positioning, and a representation of our values: • We focus solely on legal recruitment. • We prioritise alignment over expediency. • We build long-term outcomes, not quick fills. • We speak plainly and act with integrity. Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey. We look forward to connecting with you in 2026 with renewed energy, direction and focus. If you haven’t already, explore our new look at sblrecruitment.com.au and let us know what you think. Here’s to thoughtful progress and a big 2026 for all of us A big shout-out to Emma Pinyon at Good Moves AU for all her hard work and insights into our new look and feel. Thank you Louise Holland Angela Smith
