Great progress at Lindeva! The structure is already halfway complete, with 4 of the total 8 storeys of precast installed. The project remains on schedule, and progress continues at an excellent pace. Total precast construction brings major advantages in speed, site cleanliness, reduced formwork waste, fewer concrete spills, and a more efficient labour presence on site. This underscores Verdicon Builders’s ability and expertise in leading total precast construction on a project of this scale, while maintaining a clean, organized, and well coordinated site. Proud to highlight our award-winning work with Fritz-Alder Precast on Northport Meadows in Port Elgin, Ontario this week! This façade reads with the depth, variation, and character of traditional stonework — on a precast concrete substrate. The mortar joints, face texture, and dimensional profile were cast directly into the panels using formliner. Certified Nawkaw technicians then applied our proprietary stain to the raw precast surface, building tonal separation between the stone face and mortar plane. The result: a precast façade with controlled color variation, architectural depth, and long-term mineral-stain performance. Chemically bonded. Breathable. No chipping. No peeling. No moisture entrapment. Fritz-Alder Precast says modular precast systems can sometimes be perceived as limiting architectural flexibility, leading to repetitive, cookie-cutter outcomes. Colin Robinson, VP of Sales at Fritz-Alder Precast, spent time at #OAAConf making the case otherwise. Robinson walked attendees through how modular precast delivers fire resistance, acoustic separation, durability, and thermal mass, drawing on project experience across Ontario to show how standardized components and architectural intent are not competing priorities. He framed the conversation around four practical questions: how precast systems differ from conventional construction, how to evaluate their performance benefits, how early integration supports sustainable and resilient design, and how architects can maintain design flexibility while working within standardized systems. Fritz-Alder says early collaboration between architects, engineers, contractors, and owners is where the potential of precast is either captured or lost. It's a theme across this year's conference, and Fritz-Alder says bringing precast thinking into the design process early is how the performance and schedule benefits get realized.
