Nine years ago, Flowing Code started with a simple idea: build great software and enjoy the journey along the way. This month, we celebrate 9 years flowing strong. This past year has been about growth in every sense: tackling complex technical challenges, supporting major platform migrations, expanding our open-source contributions, and continuing to deliver high-impact solutions to partners around the world. But beyond the code, what truly defines us is the people behind it: a team that keeps learning, adapting, and pushing forward together. We're proud of how far we've come, and even more excited about what's ahead. We've spent the first month of the year working on making our add-ons compatible with Vaadin 25. Some add-ons were already compatible, others required only minor adjustments, and a few needed more time and deeper changes. Our main goal was (and still is) to keep a single codebase per add-on, instead of maintaining separate versions for Vaadin 25. Being able to support everything from Vaadin 14 (released in August 2019) up to 25 with one codebase is a big milestone for us. This effort builds on the work we started last year, when Vaadin 25 was still in its alpha phase, and that groundwork is already paying off. While this is still a work in progress, many of our add-ons already support Vaadin 25, including: • Google Maps • Grid Exporter • Grid Helpers • TwinColGrid • Markdown Editor • Enhanced Tabs • Badge List • Chip Field See the complete list in our online demo: https://lnkd.in/d9W93nx5 If there's a Flowing Code add-on you rely on that is not yet compatible with Vaadin 25, feel free to let us know by opening an issue on GitHub: https://lnkd.in/dAT8x_jt We'll keep sharing updates as the migration continues. #vaadin #java #opensource #webapps #webdevelopment

Flowing Code reposted this
One of the most rewarding parts of my role is turning a complex migration headache into a reusable open-source tool. When Vaadin 25 introduced breaking changes to JSON handling, I saw an opportunity to do more than just patch our code. I wanted to design a solution that simplified the transition not only for us but also for the entire ecosystem. I implemented a compatibility layer so our add-ons could support multiple versions from a single codebase. This approach keeps everything functional across Vaadin 14, 23, 24, and 25 without the need for redundant code or multiple branches. As the maintainer of several add-ons at Flowing Code, I am excited to share the technical details of this implementation and how it can help others maintain broad version support with minimal effort. #vaadin #java #webapps #webdevelopment #opensource
Vaadin 25 introduces a significant change in JSON handling that directly impacts many of our add-ons. At Flowing Code, we maintain more than 30 Vaadin add-ons, and a large portion of them relied on the now-removed elemental.json dependency. Supporting Vaadin 25 without creating framework-specific versions became a real challenge. In this post, we share how we approached JSON compatibility across multiple Vaadin versions using a single codebase, and why this solution represents just the first step in a broader migration journey. Here's the story behind Json Migration Helper: https://lnkd.in/db_GDW4P #vaadin #migration #addons #json
