New EACR conference alert! We have officially launched the website for the new 'Overcoming Therapy Resistance: Outsmarting intratumour heterogeneity and plasticity' EACR conference! Join us in Lyon, France on 20 - 22 April 2027 as we bring together international leaders of the field to illuminate how tumour complexity evolves, explore strategies to identify driver cell states and dissect and rewire the tumour microenvironment, and examine cutting-edge approaches to counter ITH and plasticity. About us
The European Association for Cancer Research is Europe’s largest professional member society and registered charity for cancer researchers with over 13,000 members worldwide. Membership is open to anyone actively working or studying in cancer research and our members work across the full spectrum of the field, from basic and translational to clinical research. We provide a wide range of services to our members, facilitate communication and collaboration, and organise a series of cancer research conferences and congresses where the latest research topics and interaction for participants are the very highest priorities. We also set out to raise the profile of cancer research and cancer researchers in Europe and the need for sustained political and economic support.

Happy to share that I presented my poster at the EACR 2026 Congress: Innovative Cancer Science in Budapest, Hungary. Poster title: Tumour-associated Mesenchymal Stem Cells (t-MSCs) suppress adaptive anti-tumour immunity in Breast cancer. Our work investigates how tumour-associated mesenchymal stem cells (t-MSCs) remodel the tumour immune microenvironment, suppress adaptive anti-tumour immune responses, and contribute to breast cancer progression. It was a great opportunity to discuss our findings with researchers from around the world, exchange ideas, and receive valuable feedback that will help shape the next steps of this research. I would like to thank my early career postdoc mentor Dr Subir Biswas, my co-authors, collaborators, Biswas Lab members and core facilities at Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer(ACTREC), Tata Memorial Centre, for their constant guidance and support. I am also grateful to the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) for organizing an excellent scientific meeting. Looking forward to continuing this work and contributing to a better understanding of the tumour microenvironment in cancer. #EACR2026 #CancerResearch #budapest #TumorImmunology #TumorMicroenvironment #MesenchymalStemCells #BreastCancer #PosterPresentation #ACTREC

Last month, I had the opportunity to travel to Budapest and attend the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) 2026 Annual Congress. While there, I presented some of my most recent PhD research investigating the effector functions of expanded Vδ1 T cells and their potential use as an Adoptive Cell Therapy for solid cancers, during one of the Immunotherapy poster sessions. It was an incredible experience discussing my research with other students and experienced researchers, sparking new ideas and potential collaborations. Thank you to all involved in creating such an engaging and well-run event. Also, shout out to my partner in crime for the week, Karla O’Shea who made the trip even more enjoyable.

Recently back from the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) 2026 Congress in Budapest, Hungary, where I had the opportunity to present my latest research at one of the tumour immunology poster sessions. My work focused on characterising γδ T-cell cytotoxic and inhibitory receptor expressions across different tissue compartments in patients with colon cancer, with potential implications for future immunotherapy strategies. It was an inspiring few days of connecting with researchers, exploring potential collaborations, and gaining fresh perspectives on the exciting advances being made in cancer research. A special thank you to all involved in organising such an important and well-run event and to my colleague Amy Walsh, who made the trip even more enjoyable! Looking back over the past year, I’ve also had the privilege of presenting at the UCC annual College of Medicine and Health Research Conference and attending the 11th International Gamma Delta T Cell Conference in Toronto Canada. Each conference has provided valuable opportunities to learn, network and be inspired by the incredible work happening across the field of cancer research. I’m so grateful for these experiences and excited for what the year ahead will bring!

Last month, I had the opportunity to present some preliminary findings from my PhD thesis at the Annual Congress of the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) and at The Barcelona Debates on the Human Microbiome. The conferences and poster sessions gave me a broader perspective of the current state of research in my field. At the same time, I was able to expand my professional network, the participants were very kind and gave me constructive feedback on my research. I’m looking forward to attending in both conferences next year, hoping to present a more advanced stage of my project.

Sometimes the most impactful research starts with a simple conversation. Our story from the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) Congress highlights how collaboration can spark truly meaningful cancer research: https://lnkd.in/ehbj8sUV It’s a reminder that conferences are more than presentations, they’re where ideas connect and partnerships begin. I’m excited to be starting as a postdoctoral researcher on this grant and look forward to contributing to this work and sharing our findings in the future. Show up. Connect. You never know what it might lead to. Special thanks to all members of this amazing cross-cultural and institutional team: Prof David Wedge Prof. William Aiken, Dr Kimberley Foster, PhD, Dr. Aliah Hawari, Dr. Ashwin Sachdeva, Dr. Rory Thompson Dr. Jeremy Oates Dr. Sophia Green Dr. Pedro Oliveira

Don't forget that the EACR- Worldwide Cancer Research Collaboration Fellowships are a new initiative this year, and you could be one of the first fellows! If you made a new research connection at the EACR 2026 Congress in Budapest, why not apply for funding of up to €3500 to continue the collaboration with an in-person visit? This new fellowship programme was created from a shared belief that connecting cancer researchers across borders is one of the most powerful ways to drive new discoveries and move us closer to a world where no life is cut short by cancer.
