Together with Director Peggy Devestel our EUROCONTROL Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC) colleagues welcomed Axel Krein, Executive Director of the Clean Aviation & his team for a behind the scenes visit at MUAC. Our colleagues explained our unique role as Europe's first cross-border, civil-military air navigation service provider (ANSP) as well as the steps we are taking to identify opportunities to reduce aviation's environmental impact.✈️ The group also spent time in our Simulator, experiencing first-hand what it's like to work as an air traffic controller. 💬 Peggy Devestel said: "Clean Aviation has innovation in its DNA, much like MUAC. Their efforts will help shape the aviation ecosystem of the future as the EU's leading research and innovation programme focusing on regional hybrid-electric, hydrogen and short medium range aircraft architectures. 🚨Discussing communication loss in the air (#COMLOSS) - a critical challenge for safe flight operations ✈️ - at AERO #friedrichshafen 2026, the global platform for general aviation🌍. #COMLOSS occurs when pilots are unable to communicate with air traffic control (#ATC) due to equipment malfunction, human error or external interference. Raising awareness & strengthening understanding of safety-critical issues such as #COMLOSS is essential, and is one of the tasks carried out through #NEASCOG, the NATO-#EUROCONTROL ATM Security Coordinating Group, via a Task Force that looks to promote best practices aimed at reducing risk and enhancing readiness. Organised by the Aero Academy & supported by the #NEASCOG #COMLOSS Task Force chaired by Andreas Krebber (DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH), EUROCONTROL security expert BLUNCK Timo, together with Marco Kiesel from the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) delivered briefings and awareness sessions focusing on: ✈️national airspace operations ✈️implications of #COMLOSS for general aviation, business aviation and flight training organisations ✈️how to recognise potential misuse of aircraft ✈️the role and responsibilities of the German National Airspace Security Command and Control Centre (NLFZ) ✈️risks associated with #COMLOSS ✈️strategies for incident prevention. 🙏Many thanks to the Aero General Aviation Academy, the German #ANSP DFS, the German Armed Forces & the German Federal Police for their support & collaboration in making these sessions possible. #aviation #network #dontbethereason

Steven & Yolanda share how we are getting ready for #Summer2026✈️ — and why collaboration across the aviation system is more important than ever. With traffic continuing to grow, airspace constraints, weather disruption and geopolitical developments putting pressure on operations, more than ever operational stakeholders should #thinkNetwork🧠✈️ when taking decisions that can impact the network as a whole. 🔁To help minimise disruption and improve predictability, Steven and Yolanda encourage all operational partners to focus on six key #thinkNetwork🧠✈️ priorities: 1️⃣ Disciplined flight plan execution – as flying as filed, especially vertically, helps ensure we use all available capacity in the airspace 2️⃣ Realistic scheduling and accurate departure time updates (PDP i) – keeping off block times realistic improves predictability and maximises capacity across the network. 3️⃣ Prioritising the first rotation of the day – so that the first flight of the day leaves on time reducing knock-on delay over the day 4️⃣ Delivering agreed capacities – sticking to declared capacity wherever safely possible to maintain network stability. 5️⃣Adverse weather and capacity management 6️⃣ Greater use of datalink – reducing radio congestion & giving controllers more time to manage traffic safely. 🎯 As Yolanda reminds us, the #NMOC is working 24/7 to support operations across Europe. ✈️#Engaging with Europe's air traffic controllers (#ATCOs) at IFATCA's 2026 Annual Conference on how #FEAST supports the #ATC value chain. #TeamEUROCONTROL expert & #FEAST Service Manager Marc Damitz shared our perspective on #ATCO recruitment, training & retention with ROMATSA Operational Department Director Adrian Florea, Entry Point North CFO Anne Katrine Jensen, GATE Aviation Training CEO Dirch Jans & United for Aviation Technology Services Group Chair & CEO Reda Elmadboly. 💬Marc underlined how getting recruitment right actively minimises downstream failure by freeing up valuable instructor capacity & simulator time, and reducing delays in the all-important operational staffing pipeline. Which is where #FEAST, the First European air traffic controller selection test, has been proven to deliver real value. A battery of tests for selecting future #ATCOs developed by #EUROCONTROL, #FEAST helps civil & military air navigation service providers (#ANSPs) & training institutions: ✅hire better candidates ✅reduce training failure ✅keep costs better under control ✅standardise recruitment - while making the process more objective & fair for all. 📈 And it's in growing demand, with 2025 proving yet again a record year for #FEAST with 23,564 global test takers. ✈️ The discussion also centred on the sector's ambitions to improve #GenderBalance👩💻👨💻 with Marc noting how #FEAST stats indicate that still only 30% of #ATCO applicants are female – highlighting the need for all actors along the #ATCO value chain to reinforce efforts to attract more women to the profession. ✈️ Delighted to join the #aviation community at the EUROCAE Symposium 2026 in Dublin 🇮🇪, contributing to key discussions on the future of European #aviation #standardisation. Our presence combined both strategic insight & operational dialogues across emerging #aviation domains. 🎤 Aviation Transformation Director Tânia Cardoso Simões talked about the transformation of European #aviation and how EUROCONTROL’s #Trajectory2030🛫 strategy supports a coordinated European approach to ensure innovation translates into tangible operational improvements, underpinned by harmonised #standards. 👉Tânia highlighted that innovation is not the problem, but scaling it is hard. Turning ideas into operational impacts requires: ✅ regulatory readiness ✅ industrial maturity ✅ operational buy-in ✅ harmonised standards. And that is why standards matter. They: ✅ make interoperability possible at scale ✅reduce risk when deploying new solutions ✅ support certification & regulation ✅ build the trust needed for investment & uptake. Tânia also highlighted how important the complementary roles of #EUROCONTROL & #EUROCAE are in all of this: 📌EUROCONTROL focuses on end-to-end operational concepts and network/system needs 📌EUROCAE brings deep technical expertise on equipment and systems. ➡️ Together, that combination is what turns ideas into coherent, trusted & deployable solutions. 🎤 Andrew Hately, responsible for #Uspace ConOps development at our EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (#EIH), moderated the panel “From Vision to Flight: Innovative Aerial Operations”, exploring how rapidly evolving technologies such as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (#UAS) and Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (#eVTOL) aircraft are reshaping aviation. 👉Featuring representatives from NATO, Mainblades, Airhub Aviation and Volocopter, the discussion focused on the critical challenge of safely and efficiently integrating these new airspace users into increasingly complex airspace systems designed originally for manned aviation. 🙏 Many thanks to #EUROCAE for the opportunity to contribute to these important discussions shaping the future of aviation, and to Ireland for the warm welcome and great hosting.

💻✈️ Another major step towards #modernising our #NM operational systems: this week we delivered Wave 2.3 of our integrated Network Management (#iNM) programme, releasing new user interfaces for #flow & #tower operations, improvements for #aircraft operators, and stronger service resilience. 💬EUROCONTROL Director General Raúl Medina Caballero: "By delivering modern, integrated user interfaces alongside enhanced B2B services, EUROCONTROL - together with its partners across European aviation - is building the tools needed to manage growing traffic flows more efficiently, while ensuring continuity throughout the transition. 🤝 This directly supports a more resilient, predictable and digitally enabled European aviation network, benefiting airlines, air navigation service providers, airports and, ultimately, passengers across Europe." EUROCONTROL's #iNM programme is our flagship initiative 🚩to modernise the operational systems used by #NM, the EUROCONTROL Network Manager, and is a key priority of our #Trajectory2030🛫 strategy. 🚀✈️ How do we safely integrate space operations into #ATM? Last Friday's #ECHO2 Validation Open Day showcased a key part of the answer - the Network Real-Time Mission Monitoring Module for space launches & re-entries. 👉 The event at our Brussels HQ brought together project partners and stakeholders, including #ANSPs, the SESAR Joint Undertaking, EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency, the European Defence Agency, civil aviation authorities, the European Commission, the US Federal Aviation Administration, and other organisations. 🎯 The goal was to review the latest progress of the SESAR #ECHO2 project led by EUROCONTROL, and gain a detailed understanding of Solution 1 which focuses on space launches & re-entries. This included: 📌 presentations of recent technical & procedural validation activities, scenarios and results by DLR colleagues 📌 highlighting how the solution performs in realistic nominal & non-nominal operational contexts 📌 a demo of the prototype used during the simulations.
