The Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) is more than a budgetary exercise – it translates the strategic direction of the European Union for years to come into overall financial planning. As discussions on the post-2027 MFF gather pace, key choices will need to be made on priorities, flexibility, performance, and how the EU intends to respond to future crises and long-term challenges. In this edition of ECA Insights, we share findings from our recent audit work on the current MFF and highlight upcoming opinions that will inform the debate on the next EU budget for 2028-2034.
