The India AI Impact Summit 2026 was a critical moment to put openness in AI systems at the forefront. However, openness alone is not a silver bullet and must be complemented by robust governance and guardrails. In our latest blog, Lea Gimpel and Amreen Taneja share their reflections on the summit: 🔹 How the DPG Standard verifies that AI systems are safe, inclusive, and designed for public benefit. 🔹 Exploring AI systems as DPGs, the use of AI within existing DPGs, and DPGs as trusted resources for responsible AI development (DPG4AI). 🔹 The urgent need for public investment in the open AI ecosystem to avoid the pitfalls seen in the open source software movement. 🔹 Why we must simplify the deployment of open source models while strengthening their safety infrastructure. Read our full reflections here: https://lnkd.in/dvTXW6-H We would like to thank John Dickerson (Mozilla.ai), Ayah Bdeir (CurrentAI), Chenai Chair (Masakhane African Languages Hub), Urvashi Aneja (Digital Futures Lab), Minister Karianne Tung, Minister Esther Dweck (Ministério da Gestão e da Inovação em Serviços Públicos), Morten Dæhlen (University of Oslo), Henrique Dolabella (RER), Swetha Kolluri (@DiCRA), Ashfaq Ahmad (ODK), Eirik Lunnan Djuve (Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation), Alok Gupta (EkStep Foundation), Anastasia Stasenko (pleias), Filippa Braarud, Gauri Bandekar, Philipp Olbrich (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH), James Lovegrove (RedHat Recruitment), Professor Amanda Brock (OpenUK), Aarushi Gupta (Digital Futures Lab), @M Chockalingam (NASSCOM), Yasha Khandelwal (TECH4BIZ), Peter Mattson (MLCommons, Google).

🇮🇳 What an incredible conclusion to a busy and fruitful week at the India AI Impact Summit 2026! Last Friday in New Delhi, we were delighted to see a packed room for our high-level panel, "International Collaboration on AI and Digital Public Goods to Advance Progress on Climate, Health and Agriculture" at the @Royal Norwegian Embassy. Moderated by the DPGA Secretariat’s Amreen Taneja and Lea Gimpel, we presented the #DPGStandard, how it applies to #AI systems, and the best practices built into it to ensure openness is complemented by responsible practices. The event also featured presentations by DPG representatives and implementers on how digital public goods contribute to responsible AI development. Many thanks to Prof. Morten Dæhlen, Henrique Dolabella, Swetha Kolluri and Ashfaq Ahmad for sharing their insights. Lastly, we explored with Alok Gupta, Eirik Lunnan Djuve and Anastasia Stasenko the role of DPGs as the open, transparent, and responsible foundation that ensures AI benefits everyone and how it is changing DPG’s value proposition. A special thank you to the Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi (Ambassador May-Elin Stener, Filippa Braarud and Gauri Bandekar) for their incredible support in hosting this dialogue. We were honoured to welcome Karianne Tung, Minister of the Ministry of Digitalisation and Public Governance of Norway, and #EstherDweck, Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services of Brazil (Ministério da Gestão e da Inovação em Serviços Públicos), who delivered opening remarks and highlighted the vital role of DPGs in social and economic development. Their presence is a true testament to the DPGA as a collaboration platform for like-minded governments and partners. The commitment to this mission was perfectly captured by Minister Tung: ❝Digital public goods and digital public infrastructure enable efficient, inclusive systems and increase innovation. Used responsibly, they can strengthen equality and protect individual rights, catalysing social, economic and democratic development.❞ Stay tuned to learn more about the DPGA’s take aways from the AI Impact Summit! #DigitalPublicGoods #DPG #DPGA #DPG4AI #DPI #Innovation #IndiaAIImpactSummit2026 #ResponsibleAI #PeoplePlanetProgress

It’s been three weeks since the EU Open Source Policy Summit brought together policymakers, open source industry leaders, major IT users, and public administrations to explore how open technologies can strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and digital sovereignty. To relive a day full of important dialogue and collaboration, we’ve created an aftermovie that captures the energy of the Summit. It highlights the full day and features: 🔹Aura Salla (Member of the European Parliament (EPP)) 🔹Thibaut Kleiner (Director, DG Connect, European Commission) 🔹Liv Marte Nordhaug, (Secretariat CEO, Digital Public Goods Alliance) 🔹Sachiko Muto (Chair, OpenForum Europe) The Summit brought together over 40 speakers across 18 sessions and welcomed our largest audience to date, including policymakers, open source businesses, advocates, and academics, both online and in person. This strong engagement highlights the growing importance of high-level policy dialogue on open source’s role in shaping Europe’s digital future. With open source at the heart of the EU’s digital ambitions, the 2026 edition focused on governance frameworks to fully unlock its value across the continent and explored practical steps policymakers can take to accelerate open source adoption at scale.
