Great first meeting of the Dover Pride in Place Board. The newly appointed Chair and Board met at St Radigunds Community Centre on Friday 17 April to make a start on its exciting work going forward. The Board has been set up to lead Dover’s new 'Pride in Place' programme which will bring up to £20 million of investment to St Radigunds and Buckland wards over the next 10 years. It is working to bring residents, local businesses and community leaders together to identify the projects that matter most to local people and create a plan for delivery. #prideinplace #community #Dover

We are seeking a motivated and forward thinking Pride in Place Programme Officer to support the Council’s work on the Government’s Pride in Place Programme during a period of maternity leave. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of our neighbourhoods by working collaboratively with residents, businesses and partners to deliver long term regeneration and community empowerment.  The role will: - Lead delivery of the Pride in Place Programme across targeted neighbourhoods.  - Co-ordinate a Neighbourhood Board and ensure strong community engagement.  - Oversee projects that improve local infrastructure, public spaces and social amenities.  - Manage programme budgets and ensure compliance with Council and Government standards.  - Report progress and outcomes to senior leaders and stakeholders. 🎉 The Maison Dieu celebrates two prestigious Awards! The Maison Dieu (Dover Town Hall) has been awarded a 2026 Civic Trust Award and an Architects Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC) Conservation Award. The building was one of six south east finalists among 77 nationwide for the Civic Trust Award. The award recognises projects 'that make an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the built environment, and demonstrate excellence in architecture or design, whilst being sustainable, accessible and provide a positive civic contribution.’ The Maison Dieu was also one of three south east finalists for the AABC Conservation Awards. Established in 2014, these awards celebrate projects that demonstrate the highest standards of historic building conservation. The Judges’ comment described the Maison Dieu as: “The most wonderful renovation of an ancient building. At every level, this is a hugely successful project." The CIVIC TRUST AWARDS website adds: “The restoration of the Maison Dieu represents an exceptional achievement in the conservation and reactivation of one of England’s most important historic buildings … Through a carefully judged programme of repair and adaptation, the building has been brought back into active use, allowing it to re-enter civic life as a place of culture, learning and public engagement. The project combines scholarly rigour with a clear commitment to accessibility, ensuring that this remarkable structure is once again experienced as a living part of the town …” This follows news in December that the Maison Dieu had been shortlisted for the awards, following a rigorous first-stage assessment. Cllr Lynne Wright, Portfolio Holder for Community and Corporate Property, said: "We are delighted that the Maison Dieu has been recognised in these awards. Chair announced for Dover's Pride in Place Programme Dover District Council (DDC) welcomes the appointment of Nick Holbrook-Sutcliffe as Chair of the Pride in Place Board for Buckland and St Radigunds in Dover. Nick brings extensive senior leadership experience across education, community development and place‑based investment. He will lead the programme in partnership with a newly formed Board, with recruitment taking place later this month. The Pride in Place Programme is the Government’s flagship communities’ initiative, designed to empower local people to shape the future of their neighbourhoods. Backed by up to £5 billion over 10 years, it represents a long‑term commitment to strengthening the foundations of communities across the country. Buckland and St Radigunds have been selected to receive up to £20 million over the next decade. The programme places residents at the heart of decision‑making, ensuring investment is directed towards the projects and priorities that matter most locally.
