Amanda Beecher of COMAP, Inc. puts the stakes plainly: “Without change, our students will be unprepared to solve meaningful complex problems.” That idea came through strongly at the Modernizing Undergraduate Math Summit. Students need more than disconnected procedures. They need opportunities to ask questions, build models, reason with data, use technology thoughtfully, communicate their thinking, and apply mathematics to problems that matter. Modernizing undergraduate math is not about lowering expectations. It is about preparing students for the complexity of the world they are entering. What kinds of problems should students have more opportunities to tackle in undergraduate math courses? #ModernizingUndergraduateMath #MathematicsEducation #HigherEducation #MathematicalModeling #STEMEducation

Big thank you to the math educators who stopped by our tables today at the FCTM annual conference to learn about Math Kangaroo, Orlando Math Circle, and math modeling. You are the bridge that connects students and families to the wider mathematics enrichment ecosystem, and that work matters more than I can say. If you’re still here tomorrow, I’d love to see you at one (or both) of our two morning sessions in River Terrace 3: 8:00 AM — “Math Modeling to Making: Inspiring Students Through Real-World Math and Engineering Experiences” COMAP is generously offering a free annual membership and a free team registration to every teacher who attends. I’ll be presenting alongside Amanda Beecher of COMAP, Inc. and two of our high school students, Soha and Tammy. Our math friends at COMAP are giving away a free annual membership AND a free team registration to every teacher who attends the 8am session! 9:00 AM — “Your Student Belongs Here: Connecting Curious Learners to Summer Math Across the US” A look at the summer math program opportunities available to middle and high school students nationwide. Jacob C. , Executive Director of the Summer Mathematics Program Consortium, will present, and we’ll highlight OMC’s own summer programs and hear from OMC college student Noah Mercedes about his experience in the MITES summer program. Both sessions are designed to send you home with concrete resources to share with your students. Together we can keep growing Florida’s mathematics community — I hope you’ll join us.

How do professional soccer clubs balance winning with financial sustainability? Three Duke Trinity College of Arts & Sciences students explored that question in the 2026 MCM/ICM and earned an Outstanding Winner designation for their work. A great example of mathematical modeling applied to a real-world challenge. Read more about their experience: https://lnkd.in/eWGkqwU7 #MathModeling #AppliedMath #DataScience

At the 2026 #RegeneronISEF, one thing stood out: mathematical modeling was everywhere. Students used modeling to study coral bleaching, Alzheimer's disease, hurricanes, financial networks, agriculture, and more. Many of these projects weren't even entered in mathematics categories. COMAP was proud to recognize students whose work demonstrated exceptional use of mathematical modeling to investigate real-world problems.
