🚨 Big news k8s admins! Our beloved NGINX Ingress Controllers are dead-dead, March next year! Ingress NGINX, one of the most popular ingress controllers, is officially retiring. The Kubernetes SIG Network and Security Response Committee announced the end of support — maintenance continues until March 2026, but after that, no updates or bug fixes. Why the change? Despite its popularity, Ingress NGINX faced ongoing security challenges that could not be addressed with basic maintenance & support. This is a good thing, however. The rightful predecessor is the Gateway API, which is better in almost every way, with a bunch of better features (JWT token filtering being my favorite!) If you're currently using it, now's the time to act. Nothing is going to turn into a pumpkin in March, but you don't want to be caught holding these security vulnerabilities for too long. It's going to take some planning; it's not a straight cutover. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Your existing deployments won’t break immediately, but this switch is unavoidable to maintain security and stability going forward.
