Refactoring a Legacy .NET App with an AI Agent Most developers I know spend most of their time fixing bugs rather than building new features. According to several studies, companies still allocate up to 80% of their IT resources just to keep legacy systems running — and in many cases, those systems are decades old. I wanted to see how far we could go using an agent to refactor one of these systems automatically. So, I took a pharmacy management system built on .NET Framework 4.7.2 and migrated it to .NET 8 using CodeGPT. The entire process — from analyzing the codebase to generating the new version and documenting the migration — happened directly inside VS Code. It’s interesting to see how these refactoring agents can now handle complex migrations like this. The result isn’t just a modernized app; it’s a glimpse of how software maintenance might look in the near future.

From Requirements to MVP Structure in Minutes We built an agent that transforms client requirements into technical documentation automatically. What we tested: - Took Scikit-learn's Imbalanced-Learn project - Removed the Examples folder - Asked the agent to recreate the structure from natural language requirements Results: The agent generated component diagrams and documentation that matched the original project structure—respecting dependencies and architecture. We compared GPT-4o vs Claude Sonnet to find the best output. Claude won for precision. Full demo in the video 👇
