Most WordPress freelancers hit the same wall at some point. Too large to work alone. Too small to justify a team. Spending their days managing people instead of writing code. Edith Allison found a third way. In this episode of Changing Lives with Codeable, she talks about building a WooCommerce specialist practice with access to on-demand teams, a global client base, and a community that changed how WordCamps feel. She also walks through one of her most technically demanding projects: a live store migration to High Performance Order Storage with zero downtime while orders kept coming in. And she shares her honest take on AI in 2026. A useful tool. Not a black box. Every line that goes live gets read. "If you don't use AI, you're going to be left out pretty soon!" Greyd Conversations #14: Modern WordPress Architecture Most agency headaches don’t start with technology; they start with architecture. In this episode of Greyd Conversations, Greyd Developer and WordPress Core Contributor Jessica Lyschik is joined by Marcel Schmitz and Tome Pajkovski from Codeable to unpack what modern WordPress architecture really means for agencies today. They discuss how to balance stability and innovation, when to adopt new tools versus sticking with proven workflows, and why timing matters when evaluating trends like headless setups or Full Site Editing. Some of the takeaways: ✅ Trends like headless or AI aren’t always the answer—choose solutions based on real needs. ✅ Performance starts with smart architecture, not just frontend tweaks. ✅ Stability and maintainability often outweigh chasing the latest hype. ✅ Experiment early, but deliver client projects with confidence. ✅ AI can accelerate work, but experience and judgment remain irreplaceable. If you work with client websites, this episode is a reminder that good architecture, clear processes, and the right expertise are what make projects scale with confidence. Recently I was featured in Codeable's Build With Heart podcast hosted by Andrew Ryan where I was asked to give a presentation on soft skills representing some of the best advice I've learned while working with Codeable. In this session, I walk through several frameworks and mindsets that any contractor can implement today to increase acquisition rates, improve retention, better position themselves for future opportunities, and generally stand out in a competitive professional environment. The lessons in this lecture should translate well to any contractor-driven profession. If you prefer a quick pass through the material instead of the full talk, the slides are available here: https://lnkd.in/eNHaJnq3 Thanks again to Codeable for the opportunity and to Andy for being a great host. I hope anyone who takes the time to explore the content finds it insightful, useful, and encouraging in their own pursuit of doing great work. https://lnkd.in/e4H3k4AK

🗣️ Hackathon 2026 is in full swing! 💻 Today, teams kicked off #CFHack 2026 at Hotel Krønasår in Europa-Park with project presentations, team formation, and the first full build sessions. The focus is exactly where it should be: open-source collaboration, practical problem-solving, and shipping ideas that can matter beyond the weekend. 🌐 This year’s projects span accessibility, sustainable infrastructure, AI tooling, TYPO3, and multiple WordPress-focused builds — from plugin quality and AI-assisted development to self-hosted runtime optimization. 🔥 Now it’s on: less talk, more building. #CFHack #WordPress #TYPO3 #PHP #JavaScript #OpenSource

  • Codeable is back at CloudFest as a sponsoring partner with Codeable Experts and a staff member on the ground at Europa-Park. Marcel Schmitz Wesley Stessens Tome Pajkovski Zeshan Ahmed (+ Farhan Ahmed) Mike Andreasen Lucio S. Nemanja C. and Birgit Olzem (Staff) WordPress is the foundation our Experts network is built on. Every client project runs on software that volunteers and contributors built in the open. Sponsoring the CloudFest Hackathon is one way we put time and expertise back into that ecosystem. This year, our Experts are leading three hackathon projects: • WP Agentic Admin, a privacy-first AI assistant for WordPress, led by Marcel Schmitz • SWORD, a Self-Hosted WordPress Optimized Runtime on Docker, led by Wesley Stessens • TestAlly for Developers, a component guide for manual accessibility tests and audits for developers, co-lead by Nemanja Cimbaljevic. In total, there are 10 projects in the making with about 110 participants hacking for almost three days. They're writing code, filing PRs, and shipping features alongside developers from across the WordPress community and other open-source systems. Big thanks and shoutout to Carole Olinger, who manages to gather year after year an impressively diverse group of backend devs, frontend devs, DevOps, marketers, LLM specialists, etc. We keep showing up because the work matters to us. 🗓️ March 20–22, 2026 📍 Europa Park Rust, Germany 🌐 https://lnkd.in/g_jXgag8 #CloudFest #CFHack2026 #WordPress #OpenSource #BuildWithHeart

  • Marcel Schmitz and Tome Pajkovski recently joined our partners at GREYD to discuss modern WordPress architecture with Jessica Lyschik. The conversation centered on a practical truth. Developers should not use new tools to mask poor fundamentals. Marcel pointed out that adopting Headless WordPress to solve performance issues often ignores the real problem of poorly optimized PHP. Shipping a massive JavaScript payload is rarely the right fix for a slow server. Tome applied the same logic to AI. It is excellent for scaffolding routine code. It still struggles with messy human business logic. The developer's role is shifting from writing basic syntax to acting as a technical architect. Win of the week: Reducing an options table from 29 million rows to 12k. Overall database size reduced from 8GB to 0.5GB, a 15GB savings across Prod & Dev environments. 99% of the options table entries were due to a single poorly performing plugin. I'm super happy for my client! 🚀 I sometimes feel like I'm a detective, going to the dark corners of your site that no one has looked at in years. And boy, it's stuff like that that feels so good to find and fix. Interested? I'm available for hire on Codeable if your Woo store could do with an Audit! https://lnkd.in/dWKqt5P8
