This #EarthDay, Closed Loop Partners’ Center for the Circular Economy released a new impact report, highlighting major progress for U.S. composting––a key solution to diverting valuable materials from landfill and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from waste.   In 5 years, the Closed Loop Center's Composting Consortium and its partners have made an immense impact. Here are a few highlights:   ➡️ Tested 23,000+ compostable packaging units across 10 composting facilities and 6 composting technologies ➡️ Published 11 reports that filled longstanding data gaps on organics recovery ➡️ Expanded composting access for at least half a million more Americans through their inaugural grant program, in partnership with Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) and with technical support from US Composting Council. These milestones help clarify where compostable packaging can support organics recovery and what conditions are needed for success. As California’s compost markets and packaging policies evolve, the City of Modesto is taking a systems approach—using certified compostable packaging as one tool to help capture more food scraps, expand organics diversion and build a local, circular economy.
