  • Construction is moving forward at a new 372,000 SF data center in Chicago (ORD2) for which CKC provided all structural engineering. Foundations are complete, perimeter wall panels are up, and steel erection is underway. This 72 MW facility will include 12 data halls and an administrative wing. Key structural features include: 🚧 Precast concrete wall panels at the perimeter for wind and seismic resistance, using carefully crafted mixes to optimize performance and reduce embodied carbon 🚧 Structural steel framing for interior and roof, optimized for efficiency and constructability 🚧 Cast-in-place concrete generator yards Our team engaged a wind consultant to perform a study on multi-row rooftop equipment configurations to understand how equipment spacing and positioning influences shielding effects. By combining ASCE 7-22 with wind tunnel research on blunt body aerodynamics, wind load reduction factors were determined for variable gap distances, which provided a more efficient design for the wind force resisting system and roof diaphragm. CKC is collaborating with MG2 Design and Edged to deliver a high-performance, resilient data center, building on proven strategies for efficiency and reliability. #StructuralEngineering #DataCenters #ConstructionUpdate #CKCStructuralEngineers

  • Sloane (616 Battery) continues its climb in downtown Seattle’s Denny Triangle. It’s now on Level 40, with Level 45 topping out right around the corner! Once complete, Sloane will bring 442 new homes to one of Seattle’s most vibrant urban neighborhoods, offering sweeping views of the Space Needle, Elliott Bay, and South Lake Union. The tower features a performance-based seismic system with concrete shear walls wrapping the core and steel fiber reinforced coupling beams at openings, paired with 8-inch post-tensioned concrete slabs. The variable thickness foundation mat -- 6 feet at the perimeter and 11 feet at the center -- incorporates 100 KSI reinforcing steel, which reduced congestion and improved efficiency. It was designed to support both gravity and lateral loads, while meeting strict settlement criteria. CKC is proud to have provided all structural engineering for this iconic project and excited to see it soon become a proud addition to the Seattle skyline. Thank you and congratulations to our partners Holland Partner Group, Weber Thompson, and the entire project team. #CKCStructuralEngineers #StructuralEngineering #Seattle #Development

  • Two weeks ago, our CEO Cary Kopczynski and Senior Principals Joe Ferzli, P.E. S.E. and Matthew Hopper, SE, PE attended the American Concrete Institute Convention in Chicago, which set an all-time attendance record and brought together nearly 2,300 concrete industry leaders from across the globe. During the convention, PRO: An ACI Center of Excellence for Advancing Productivity sponsored a session, “PRO: Designer Tips to Unlock Productivity Potential of Advanced Formwork Systems.” Speakers from major formwork suppliers shared design tips and project examples across a range of systems, reinforcing how project productivity can be significantly improved when concrete formwork is considered early in design. To enhance designer understanding of formwork and other key construction activities, PRO recently released the well-received Constructability Blueprint (CB), which outlines strategies engineers and others can use to enhance field productivity by improving the constructability of design. The CB will be periodically updated to reflect industry advancements and best practices. PRO also recently released a Success Story featuring The Ayer, a dramatic new 45-story Seattle tower for which CKC provided all structural engineering. The project’s success demonstrates how the principles PRO is promoting can be successfully applied. The Ayer was recently chosen as Outstanding Multifamily Project of the Year by NCSEA and was a High-Rise category Finalist in last year’s international ACI competition. CKC is a PRO Gold Sponsor and strong advocate for its mission of advancing constructability, strengthening collaboration, and pursuing other productivity enhancing initiatives to drive better project outcomes. https://lnkd.in/g5ha5Z-Z

  • West Clayton Lane in Denver continues to take shape as construction advances into the next phase. With two levels of below-grade structure now complete, work is actively progressing at Level 1, marking the transition from subterranean to vertical construction. This phase brings added complexity, with Level 1 being constructed in six separate concrete pours. That sequencing will continue through Level 3 where the transition to steel framing begins for the residential tower. The completion of level 1 also marks the start of the Southeast steel office building erection. As the largest redevelopment in Cherry Creek North’s history, the project will ultimately deliver 468,705 square feet of mixed-use space, including 132,000 square feet of retail and restaurant, 59,000 square feet of office, and a central outdoor space designed for gathering and social activities. From below-grade construction to the start of vertical progress, it’s exciting to see this project continue to build momentum. 👉 Fun fact: West Clayton Lane marks CKC’s 14th project in Denver’s Cherry Creek neighborhood. Big thanks to BMC Investments, PCL Construction, Tryba Architects, and the entire project team for their collaboration in this project. #CKCStructuralEngineers #WestClaytonLane #CherryCreekNorth #MixedUseDevelopment #StructuralEngineering #DenverConstruction

⭐ Spotlight on a 2026 ACEC WA Engineering Excellence Awards State Silver winner! CKC Structural Engineers, your project of the Snoqualmie Casino & Hotel Expansion for Bergman Walls & Associates won silver in the Uniqueness and/or Innovative Application of New or Existing Techniques Category! Nestled in the scenic Snoqualmie Valley just 30 minutes from Seattle, the Snoqualmie Casino & Hotel Expansion transforms the region’s premier gaming destination into a worldclass resort experience. The $400M expansion adds a 15-story, 210-room hotel with panoramic mountain views, an expanded gaming floor, a full-service spa, pool, new dining venues including a signature rooftop restaurant, 40,000 square-foot entertainment and convention center, and a 600-stall valet parking garage. CKC Structural Engineers provided the structural design for the entire expansion, which is comprised of three main structures: the hotel tower, the low-rise podium, and the valet parking garage. The goal was to deliver an efficient, resilient structural system that supported the architectural vision—including cultural design elements honoring the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe’s heritage—without compromising schedule, cost, or long-term performance. The hotel’s distinctive slanted roof, inspired by traditional longhouses, introduced unique geometry, while the multi-material nature of the project added further complexity. Situated behind the original casino campus, opened in 2008, the expansion also required careful coordination with existing facilities and a tight, active site. The hotel tower utilizes cast-in-place concrete construction with post-tensioned floor slabs to achieve efficient floor-to-floor heights and reduced material use. The podium is framed with composite structural steel, incorporating buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) to provide ductile seismic performance, reduce foundation loads, and streamline construction sequencing. One of the defining engineering features is a 150-foot-long span truss system that supports an expansive, column-free ballroom—a centerpiece of the entertainment and convention program and a key architectural highlight. Advanced engineering solutions enabled a complex, multi-material structure to rise efficiently on a challenging site, resulting in a landmark that celebrates cultural identity, regional craftsmanship, and the transformative potential of thoughtful, purposeful design. It is a project that blends luxury, performance, and cultural heritage, reinforcing the Snoqualmie Tribe’s legacy as stewards of the land and community. Congratulations, CKC Structural Engineers!
