The EV Ownership Survey provides valuable insight into how drivers charge, how concerns change over time, and why public charging infrastructure remains a critical part of a reliable, nationwide EV system. Most EV owners charge at home — but public charging remains essential for flexibility, travel and accessibility, especially for drivers without off‑street parking.
The 2025 EV Ownership Survey is here — and the numbers speak for themselves. 📊 For the second year running, the Electric Vehicle Council has partnered with the Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies (ITLS) at the University of Sydney to survey more than 1,800 #Australian #EV owners. The findings confirm what we’ve long argued: EVs are no longer a niche choice. They are a practical, cost-effective option for everyday Australian households. 💪 Here’s what the data shows: 💰 70% of EV owners have reduced their fuel costs by more than 60% 🔧 Nearly three-quarters spend less than $300 a year on maintenance 🔌 93% can charge at home - and 85% did exactly that in the week prior to the survey ☀️ 80% of EV-owning households have rooftop solar 🚗 Range anxiety, charging concerns, and upfront cost worries all fall sharply after purchase 📈 59% of leased EVs are expected to enter the second-hand market within six years - critical for mainstream affordability These findings have real implications for policy. Government incentives, including the #Electric #Car #Discount, remain decisive for many buyers, and the pipeline of affordable used EVs depends on keeping those settings in place. It has been a while since I have been able to post about a new public charging site, but this one is extra special. The team at Energy ROI have joined the 400kW club with their new site on Chargefox in Longford, Tasmania. Boasting a SINEXCEL 480kW power unit and two dual CCS2 dispensers capable of 500A DC (on boost), this site will be able to max out the charging rate of almost all vehicles currently on the Australian market. Maybe I’ll need to make a trip down with my ZEEKR Australia 7X to see if I can max the charger out ;)

This is what real-world progress looks like: when major retailers invest in charging, making it easier for customers to go electric, everybody wins! Did you know you can charge your EV at over 30 Woolworths Supermarkets around Australia and they're all available ON CHARGEFOX.
The EVC had a great discussion with the sustainability team at Woolworths Group this week and were impressed by their progress in delivery, store, and team charging programs. A big thank you to Gregor Tuckerman and Nick Blackwell for hosting us and sharing the team’s work! If you didn't know already, Woolies already powers its supermarkets, stores, and distribution centres by 100% renewable electricity. Running 1,500+ sites on green energy is no small feat, and they’re now turning that same focus to fleet and workplace electrification, while making it easier for customers to go electric too. It’s also great to see strong collaboration between Woolies and EVC members like Chargefox, JET Charge, Autel Energy-Asia & Australia, and Kempower, helping deliver charging solutions at scale. This is exactly the kind of leadership and real-world progress that moves the needle.
