What a way to spend your birthday… writing about bioprocess control 🎂🤓 Wouldn't have it any other way! Cellcraft has launched Cellcraft IQ – an AI operating system for bioreactors aimed at another one of those bottlenecks in biomanufacturing: control. As Yash Mishra told PPTI, the reality is: “You could have excellent biology and still lose a batch because the process control wasn’t keeping up with what the cells needed in real time. Better bioreactor and thus bioprocess control means better biology.” That’s the gap Cellcraft is going after – moving from static setpoints to systems that actually respond to what cells are doing. “Today, bioreactors rely on outdated software and manual optimization between runs, leading to inconsistent yields and high costs,” added Clarisse B.. “Cellcraft IQ replaces this with real-time, AI adaptive control… enabling bioreactors to deliver consistent, high performance.” Internally, they’re reporting: 👉 99% reduction in control error 👉 98% improvement in precision 👉 45% reduction in settling time What’s interesting here isn’t just 'AI for bioreactors' (we’ve all heard that before). It’s the focus on using data that’s already there – pH, DO, temperature, agitation – and actually interpreting it in context. Or as Clarisse said, “The bioreactor is already telling you what’s happening inside it. The industry just hasn’t built a system that can listen properly.” That’s a strong claim – and if it holds up at scale, it’s a big deal. Because ultimately, consistency is what unlocks everything else: yield, cost, and the ability to actually commercialize.
