Plants that light up the night: the biotechnological revolution born at Bioo. The light you’re seeing doesn’t need wires. It doesn’t come from a streetlamp. And it doesn’t consume a single watt from the electrical grid. What you’re looking at is a real, living plant that absorbed a biocompatible compound and began to glow on its own at dusk. This isn’t science fiction. This is Bioo Lumina: the first step toward transforming the Earth… and seeing the stars again. 🧬 How does it work without electricity? Bioo Lumina is based on a biocompatible compound that the plant absorbs within 24 hours. It doesn’t alter its genetics. It doesn’t affect its photosynthesis or respiration. It simply grows with the plant, storing external light and releasing it in the dark. The result: native plants that emit a soft, functional glow, transforming public spaces without a single construction project. This technology is already here. And it’s changing the way we think about light, night, and public spaces. City councils, urban planners, investors? The moment is now. 👉 www.biootech.com/lumina

There is light you switch on. And then there is light that grows. We’ve found a way to make plants glow without genetic modification. No LEDs. No wires. We apply a biocompatible compound that the plant absorbs within 24 hours. During the day, it captures external light. At night, it releases it. And it continues this cycle throughout its life. It doesn’t affect its growth. It doesn’t alter its respiration or photosynthesis. The plant remains a plant. It just becomes light as well. We have installations around the world, in places like Barcelona, Ibiza, Dubai, and Riyadh… 90% energy savings. 95% less light pollution. This is not a product. It’s a new way of understanding light. Not something we consume, but something we grow. Bioo Lumina 🌿 Transforming the earth so we can see the stars 💫 #innovation #sustainability #biotechnology #smartcities #bioluminescence #glowingplants

117 awards. A decade of research. The European Parliament named us the most innovative company in Europe. But that’s not what matters. What matters is what no one else is doing: using nature as infrastructure. Not as inspiration. Not as discourse. As technology. The world talks about smart cities. We build biotechnological cities. It’s not a slogan. It’s a question that no one has fully answered yet: If nature already solves… why do we keep building as if it didn’t exist? #bioo #innovation #sustainability #tech #future

Bacteria + Silk + Prussian Blue = Soil batteries that start twice as fast New publication. We’re proud to share our latest scientific work, now published in Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments, Elsevier This research explores how silk fibroin-based bioanodes, combined with Bacillus subtilis and Prussian Blue, can significantly improve the performance of microbial fuel cells. By enhancing bacterial immobilization and accelerating electron transfer, we reduce startup time and improve efficiency in soil-based energy systems. A step forward in making microbial fuel cells more viable for real-world applications such as IoT, remote sensing, and environmental monitoring. Special thanks to our collaborators at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC), to Pablo Rodríguez Núñez and to our Bioo R&D team for their collaboration and support within the #SOIL2POWER project. 🔗 Read the full paper: https://lnkd.in/eQ3siBkZ #innovation #biotechnology #bioengineering #microbialfuelcells #sustainability #EIC #EICTransition #Soil2Power #H2020 #SilkFibroin

Hire a new Head of Maintenance. They have 2.5 billion years of experience. Your corporate building, your residential complex, or your municipal park has a maintenance department. It manages irrigation, pruning, and lighting. It is a cost center that fights against nature, treating it as an adversary that grows where it shouldn't and consumes resources. There is a better candidate for the job. Hire the ecosystem itself. With Bioo Panel technology, the garden can self-finance its own energy and water. There is invisible activity in the soil that generates energy as part of a natural process, without disrupting the balance of the ecosystem. It ceases to be a “problem” to manage and becomes a “self-governing system” that reports its status. This is not a marginal saving in water. It is a change of model: from corrective maintenance (reacting) to predictive and autonomous maintenance (anticipating). Your new Head of Maintenance does not ask for a salary. It asks you to let it work by its own rules. Its CV: it has kept the most complex systems on the planet in balance for eons. Will you promote your garden? #FacilityManagement #SmartCities #ROI #BusinessInnovation #BiooPanel

3 years of research, one project, one team: We’re closing an incredible chapter at Bioo A few days ago, we gathered at Bioo’s headquarters in Barcelona to celebrate the completion of a key milestone: the conclusion of the Soil2Power research project 🇪🇺 For three years, we’ve worked intensively on developing a revolutionary biological reactor for the agritech sector. Our goal: to create the first generation of autonomous microorganisms capable of powering irrigation valves directly from the soil. What have we achieved together? ✅ A new biological battery architecture, more resilient and adapted to agricultural environments. ✅ An energy harvesting system up to 60% more efficient than conventional solutions. ✅ The integration of silk-based bioelectrodes (developed by CSIC) enabling much faster and more efficient electron transfer. ✅ A drastic reduction in startup time to reach maximum power output. This is just the beginning. The technologies developed within Soil2Power open the door to countless applications in smart irrigation and beyond. Endless thanks to the entire Bioo team, our partners CSIC and Eurecat - Technology Centre, and of course the European Union for trusting in science and bio-based innovation. We keep scaling, researching, and bringing soil energy where it’s needed most. #Soil2Power #Bioo #Innovation #AgTech #HorizonEurope #Science #Biotechnology #RenewableEnergy

We are not Digital Natives. We are Natives of a Living Spaceship. Often, when we think about technology and nature, we limit ourselves to an extraction model. We use resources, but without truly integrating ourselves into the system. These are elements that take, but do not think like the living network of which they are a part. What if, instead of just taking, we could collaborate? That is applied biomimicry: it is not just copying the shape of a leaf, it is adopting the strategy behind it. It is learning from nature's 3.8 billion years of R&D to solve human problems in a radically efficient and sustainable way. And the most powerful concept within it is symbiosis: the association where two different organisms come together and obtain mutual benefit, creating a system stronger than the sum of its parts. How does this translate into reality? At Bioo, we apply it like this: • Energy Symbiosis: We don't just extract energy. We create systems where energy generation is a by-product of natural processes, benefiting the substrate and obtaining clean electricity without impact. • Resource Symbiosis: We mimic the water cycle in a forest, where nothing is wasted. We design systems so that the “waste” from one process becomes the “resource” for another, closing the cycle. • Structural Symbiosis: We develop materials and structures that are not only strong, but also interact with their environment: facades that “breathe” to regulate temperature or capture air pollutants, just like tree bark does. We are not building in nature. We are weaving infrastructures that are a functional part of it. It is the next logical step: moving from exploitation to intelligent collaboration. The question is no longer “what can we take from nature?” but “how can we fit into its intelligence?”
