What does successful leadership in design, engineering and project delivery look like? Beyond technical expertise, it’s about fostering trust, effective collaboration, and the ability to communicate and lead with confidence. Earlier this month, 20 colleagues from across BakerHicks joined the first session of our 2025 Leader Development Programme – focused on empowering staff into realising and developing non-technical leadership qualities including emotional intelligence, clear communication, and positive decision-making. The diverse perspectives of individuals from our UK, Switzerland, Germany, and Belgium offices brought valuable cross-cultural insights and encouraged the sharing of best practices.

Preserving local green spaces in Manchester 🌱 Six members of our Manchester team recently offered their support to Friends of Fletcher Moss – a dedicated local voluntary group that helps maintain and protect the Fletcher Moss Botanical Gardens in Didsbury. Staff from our Civil & Structural, Geospatial, and High Voltage teams took the day to apply their specialist expertise on: ♻️ Park maintenance ♻️ Landscape design ♻️ Site enhancement and accessibility improvements ♻️ Bridge construction ♻️ Responsible waste management Altogether, the day allowed our team to use their skills in sustainability in a more hands-on way, while providing a fantastic opportunity to help protect a much-loved green space. A huge thank you to Friends of Fletcher Moss for welcoming us and to all our team for rolling their sleeves up on the day! #design #engineering #projectdelivery #sustainability #civil #structural #power #volunteering #community

Site opening news from Scotland ✂️📸 Work is now complete at the new SSEN Transmission strategic operations warehouse in Dundee – the second cutting-edge power facility we’ve helped deliver to strengthen Scotland’s high-voltage transmission network. Having been involved from inception to completion of both projects, we’re proud to have delivered multi-disciplinary design support across all RIBA stages. A huge congratulations to all involved in this impactful, sustainable project – which marks a major milestone in supporting Scotland’s transition to green energy. #design #engineering #projectdelivery #construction #power #highvoltage #hv #civilengineering #structuralengineering
⚡ Powering Progress in Dundee ⚡ We’re excited to open our new £17m strategic operations warehouse in Dundee - a major boost to the resilience and efficiency of the north of Scotland’s high-voltage transmission network. Built by Global Infrastructure, the 7,500 sqm facility strengthens support for our network and ensures our teams can maintain its operational reliability. Mirroring the success of its sister site in Inverness, which opened earlier this year, the Dundee Warehouse is a key milestone in our multi-billion-pound Pathway to 2030 programme, supporting Scotland’s clean energy transition. 🔗 Find out more at: https://lnkd.in/e5FHVpm4

We’re thrilled to celebrate the successful completion of the British Airways Fleet Support Unit (FSU) north and south hangar doors - a milestone that enhances both efficiency and safety. Working alongside our long-standing project partner Mace, our multi-disciplinary team delivered architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and civil engineering expertise, working closely with the contractor to minimise disruption to the hangar that remained live throughout the project lifecycle. This achievement stands as a testament to outstanding collaboration, delivery and a steadfast commitment to safe construction. We’re looking forward to more transformative projects ahead.
Back in early October 2025 we completed the culmination of 7 years (pandemic included) programme for the replace the Fleet Support Unit (FSU) hangar doors sets (North and South), following the successful delivery of two enabling projects. A great example of internal teams across BA working together to delivery benefits to the operation and onwards to our customers. Particular thanks to the professional services teams who supported us throughout this journey from Arup, Cumming Group and Gleeds. None of this would have been possible without the great partnership with our various delivery partners; Enabling Project 1 – Technical Block E (Bays 2 & 3) hangar door refurbishments and install of new profile doors – W&L Interiors (PC) with Jewers Doors, Adenstar Aviation & Tomato Plant. Enabling Project 2 - New Fuel Station build, decommission of old facility and install of new Fix Electrical Ground Power pits – REDS Group (PC) Main Project - FSU Hangar Door Replacement – MACE Construct (PC) with Jewers Doors, Baker Hicks, DBI, Target Site Services, Amalga, BMSI & Wingate All three projects are outstanding examples of great British engineering design, planning and construction. While being delivered on budget, on programme and to an exemplary standard. Especially with zero health and safety incidents with over 90k man hours in total which is great testament to the safety culture on site by all teams. 👏👏👏 Below is a short time-lapse video of the last 10 months hard work to deliver the final stage, FSU South Doors.

“The thrill of engineering needs to be brought home to us all.” This sentiment was first shared by our co-founder Professor John F Baker and continues to guide our outreach efforts today, shaping how BakerHicks connects with schools and universities. Our goal is to inspire students to see design, engineering and project delivery as a means to drive real-world change. With our office network spread across the UK and mainland Europe, we’re proud to be able to reach such a wide range of campuses and classrooms. Some of our most recent interactions include: ✨ Hosting seminars at the DTU - Technical University of Denmark, where our team explored the application of project management theory in life science engineering, helping link academic concepts to real world examples. ✨ Collaborating with Edinburgh University Civil Engineering Society. As society sponsors, we discussed some of our latest projects – offering students a closer look at how engineering decisions unfold in practice. ✨ Engaging with life sciences students at Hochschule Albstadt-Sigmaringen – where many of our talented engineers are proud alumni, and where we’re supporting our first part-time master’s student through the German university’s Life Science Engineering programme. ✨ Attending Imperial College London’s Civil Engineering Careers Fair, helping to inform and inspire talented future engineers with an interest in the industry. #design #engineering #projectdelivery #projectmanagement #grassroots #earlycareers #engineer #careers #nextgeneration #lifesciences #civilengineering #stem #students #graduates
