Our director of acquisitions shares his thoughts on a recent article by Sebastian Barros about legacy technical debt and how it is weighing down telcos worldwide preventing them from embracing innovation. www.atmail.com/exit
This is one of the best articles I have read all year. Well written Sebastian Barros. In context of what I encounter every week as it relates to consumer e-mail services as provided by telcos worldwide, the end is inevitable just like Pay Phones, Yellow Pages, and Fixed line services and the longer you take to make a decision that is inevitable the more it will cost you. to quote Sebastians article: "This is a real and well-documented problem: global analysis shows that large telcos are forced to allocate an estimated 30% to 41% of their entire IT budget simply to managing and maintaining this existing debt. [Insert consumer email services here] This is money that is not spent on 5G slicing, AI innovation, or next-generation products. It is spent feeding the ghost of legacy systems built in 2005."
