AI is becoming part of daily practice, and what stood out to me most in our latest athenaInstitute study is how thoughtfully clinicians are approaching AI. They’re hopeful, but they’re also careful, and that balance feels right for the work we do. We heard from more than 500 clinicians and practice leaders who are already using AI in some form. Many shared that these tools are giving them small but meaningful amounts of time back. - 69% of physicians already using AI see it as a way to focus less on the EHR and more on patients - Ambient documentation is the clearest and most powerful win so far - 76% see potential for AI to catch gaps in care. Clinicians are drawing a clear human-AI boundary: AI handles the data; clinicians handle the humanity In my latest blog, I walk through what we learned — the progress, the friction, and the path clinicians see toward responsible AI use. A pattern is taking shape: The tools must do more than provide relief - they must prove to be reliable to be accepted fully as an integral part of providing care.
