  • In this clip, Eryk Salvaggio explores how generative AI images begin from noise. What looks like a corrupted file is actually the starting point for image generation: systems process vast datasets, map probabilities, and gradually resolve noise into recognisable visuals. But repeat the same prompts, and patterns emerge. What looks like a creative act often reveals narrow biases and central tendencies baked into the training data. 💻 📍 Full Video on YouTube → 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dNEGBy7d 🎞️ CREDIT ROLL Speaker + Slides: Eryk Salvaggio Video Edit + Content Support: Shaan Rehsi Content Lead: Elena Z. + Nadia Piet 🎪 ABOUT THE AIxDESIGN FESTIVAL In May 2025, the AIxDESIGN Festival: On Slow AI transformed Loods6 in Amsterdam into a cozy 3-day playground for deconstructing mainstream AI stories, dreaming up new ones, and figuring out how to make them real through a fever dream of interactive talks, hands-on workshops, 600m art exhibition, film screening, and the gathering of hundreds of AI hotties, haters, weirdos, and whisperers from around the globe. 🎪 AIxDESIGN Festival: On Slow AI was made possible with the support of Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie, Elisava School of Design and Engineering, The Netherland-America Foundation, Sound & Vision - Research & Heritage, Netherlands Film Academy, het Cultuurfonds, Jagt Zwolsman fonds, Loods6, and our lovely AIxD Community Supporters.

  • Workshop: (Sound)Making with Nervous Systems & Neural Networks w/ Jak Woda 🎛️ 🗓️ 07.05.2026, 16.00 - 19.00 📍 AIxDESIGN Foundation, NDSM Warehouse, Amsterdam 🍭 Link to sign up → 🔗 https://luma.com/axioyaq8 What if your body was the instrument, and AI was your bandmate? In this hands-on session, you'll use your gestures, voice, and movement as sound inputs, then feed those into AI tools to generate textures, beats, and patterns you could never quite plan for 🌀🎶 Jak Woda will guide you through gesture-based synthesis (your webcam as a digital theremin), audio generation with EzAudio, and LLM-generated MIDI melodies. By the end, you'll have made something real: a mini-set, a sonic sketch, something entirely unplanned and collaboratively built with your limbs, fellow participants and a few neural networks 🧪 No music production or coding experience needed. Just bring a laptop, an experimental mindset, and a willingness to make some weird noises 🙂 🌚 ABOUT MATEUSZ Jak Woda [Mateusz Mieciek] (@quasiaqua) is a media technologist and artist from Warsaw, based in Copenhagen. He makes phygital tools, embodied musical interfaces, and participatory installations that invite everyone into the creative process, regardless of technical background. His work spans pose recognition, AI noise augmentation, and human-machine musical collaboration. He's been producing and performing since 2019, with workshops at festivals including Roskilde 2025. 💿 ABOUT OPEN CULTURE TECH This event is hosted by Thunderboom Records + AIxDESIGN as part of Open Culture Tech 2.0. Open Culture Tech makes immersive technology more accessible to artists. We run residencies, publish open-source tools, and host showcases to share insights with the music industry.

  • What if AI actually paid attention to where it comes from? 🌍 Even "Spanish" cuisine is a story of migration — tomatoes from Mesoamerica, potatoes from Peru 🥔 Intelligence isn't universal or placeless either, despite what Silicon Valley wants us to believe. When we ground AI in place, we start asking better questions: whose knowledge counts? What histories are we building on top of? 🍅 In this chapter of the Small AI report we dig into "placefulness" — an alternative to mainstream AI's globalized vision. Inspired by Jenny Odell's How to Do Nothing: "Against the placelessness of an optimised life spent online, I want to argue for a new placefulness that yields sensitivity and responsibility to the historical and the ecological." 📖 🍏 Zoom the Small AI report to see all the tiny AIs making big impact in small ways → 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gBtgegDh 🐜 ABOUT SMALL AI Small AI challenges the mainstream narratives of bigger-is-better, universality, and profit and power max-ing. It explores how we can cultivate a new relationship with technology that prioritizes the land, resources, and communities that sustain it. 🐌 ABOUT SLOW AI The Slow AI project seeks to imagine alternative narratives for AI, unpacking and moving beyond Silicon Valley ideologies. Inspired by countermovements like slow fashion and slow food, it aims to subvert corporate-first thinking by collectively exploring new perspectives and pathways for AI. Generative AI is trained on what’s deemed “normal.” But what about everything in between? In this talk, Soyun Park discusses a workshop where students collected and labelled their own data to explore bias, subjectivity, and the unseen, from low-resolution images to shadows and leftovers, questioning how AI decides what counts. 🐈⬛ This clip is from Soyun Park’s talk, The Politics of AI as a Medium for Artistic Practice, at the AIxDESIGN Festival: On Slow AI.
