The 2026 midterms are on the horizon, and design has a role to play. AIGA is now accepting submissions for Design for Democracy, our nonpartisan initiative that invites designers to create posters encouraging voter engagement at the local, state, and national levels. In partnership with the League of Women Voters, this campaign uses design as a tool for public engagement and democratic participation. AIGA members: Submit your original poster for the opportunity to be featured in our public gallery, where selected works will be available for free download, printing, and distribution. Not a member? You can still support the initiative by sharing posters once the gallery launches and helping amplify these messages across your network! Join us in using design to inform and inspire action. 🗳️ Learn more and submit: https://lnkd.in/eP888xKX VOTE411 #AIGAVote #GetOutTheVote #AIGAGOTV

Our educator spotlight is Zenab Bastawala, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at James Madison University! She holds an MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading, UK, and a Bachelor’s in Visual Communication Design from Swinburne University, Australia. As an educator, typographer, graphic designer, and a letterpress aficionado, Zenab brings a multi-script and multilingual perspective to her teaching of typography and graphic design. She is the founder of Sign Walks, a platform that critically explores urban signage through the lenses of history, language, and the evolving nature of cityscapes. Read more about Zenab via the link in our bio. We want to feature more individuals and programs on our social media channels and are seeking nominations from any K-12, community college, or higher ed institution. We’re so excited to announce the return of Creatives in Color: The Art Show — a celebration of BIPOC and underrepresented artists here in Indianapolis. We invite all underrepresented and BIPOC artists to apply! This year’s theme, Fellowship, is an intentional call to come together. In a time marked by social fragmentation, creative burnout, and ongoing inequities, fellowship represents the power of gathering — sharing space, exchanging ideas, and building relationships that sustain both creative practice and personal well-being. For underrepresented creatives, fellowship is not only community; it is survival, affirmation, and forward movement. The exhibition will run from August 6 – 30 at The Schweitzer Gallery in Factory Arts District, with a First Friday reception on August 7. 🔗 Apply here: https://lnkd.in/gGJ39iEf. Deadline to apply is May 27.

What makes design stand out in a year of work? 🤔 365 Jurors are drawn to “rigor and depth in the process of design as much as the output,” especially work that explores the human experience through themes like displacement, belonging, identity, and dignity. They also value design that builds visual awareness, feels culturally meaningful, and shapes how we see the world. Across all of it, clarity matters most, especially work that turns complex ideas into something simple and engaging through a clear point of view. Does your 2025 design work reflect these ideas? Submit by April 28! https://lnkd.in/emxF75R5

FINAL CALL, BOOK DESIGNERS 🗣️ Tonight’s it. If you worked on a book or cover design in 2025, this is your last chance to submit to AIGA’s 50 Books | 50 Covers before entries close at 11:59 PM ET. They’re interested in work that pushes expectations a bit, sparks curiosity, and treats the book as something you experience, not just read. Selected work joins the AIGA Design Archives and becomes part of permanent collections at the Denver Art Museum and Columbia University Butler Library RBML, with upcoming exhibition opportunities at Pratt Institute. Enter via https://lnkd.in/eP6RCZ5e and be part of a 100+ year legacy.
