Delivering energy to planet Earth with space solar power.

About us

Aetherflux's mission is to deliver energy to planet Earth. Our work will make energy more accessible, establish American energy independence, power underdeveloped and disaster-stricken areas, and protect American warfighters. Aetherflux is taking a new approach to an old idea – space solar power. Our satellites will collect sunlight in Low Earth Orbit and transmit that power through infrared lasers to portable ground receivers, providing energy access where traditional delivery is expensive, challenging, or dangerous. Current energy systems rely on complex logistics and outdated infrastructure, making them vulnerable to natural disasters, extreme weather, and physical and cyber attacks. Aetherflux overcomes these challenges by enabling direct, on-demand, secure, and scalable 24-hour energy distribution from space. This can revolutionize energy generation and delivery, and enable new capabilities as we deliver power to remote regions, military bases, bespoke operations, and unmanned autonomous systems. Baiju Bhatt founded Aetherflux in 2024. Inspired by his father’s career at NASA, Baiju earned his B.S. in Physics and M.S. in Mathematics at Stanford before co-founding Robinhood, now a public company that has helped over 20 million Americans access the financial system. Aetherflux raised $60 million from Index Ventures, Interlagos, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, NEA, and others. This is an ambitious mission that demands extraordinary talent. Aetherflux’s team has worked at places like SpaceX, NASA, Anduril, and the U.S. Navy, and is based in San Carlos, CA. If you're ready to solve complex technical challenges and help build the most important energy company in the world, we want to hear from you.

  • Great discussions last night at Stanford University for "The New Defense Industrial Base: Lessons from the Pioneers," moderated by Ernestine Fu Mak. Baiju Bhatt joined Steve Bowsher (IQT) and Mehdi Alhassani (Palantir Technologies) on the "Building the Full Stack Defense AI Infrastructure" panel to talk through the physical realities of scaling defense tech. We are building orbital power architecture to support these next-generation systems. Thanks to everyone who put this event together. Stay tuned for more on this discussion.

What if the energy grid of the future isn't on Earth at all? Baiju Bhatt, co-founder of Robinhood and now founder of Aetherflux, is building this dream: a commercial solar power grid in space. In this Giant Ideas episode, Cameron McLain visits the Aetherflux office to hear why Baiju wants Earth to look more like Saturn, how lasers could beam solar power down from orbit, and what it takes to make space-based data centres cost competitive... • Employee Spotlight: Meet Andrew Houck, Opto-Mechanical Engineer Andrew brings a world-class engineering pedigree to the Aetherflux team. Here is a look at the impressive journey that brought him here: Andrew’s expertise is built on a top-tier educational foundation. He holds an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was a Graduate Research Assistant in the Mechatronics Research Lab. Prior to that, he earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA. After MIT, Andrew took his talents to some of the most demanding engineering environments in the USA: - NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL): Over a span of 6+ years, Andrew evolved into a key member of the optomechanical engineering team, designing and ruggedizing high-precision optical hardware built to survive the unforgiving extremes of space exploration. - Cruise: He brought space-grade tolerances down to Earth as a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer, refining the optical alignment and thermal stability of critical sensor suites for autonomous vehicles. - Openwater: Operating as a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer, he led complex hardware development for advanced, laser-based medical imaging and therapeutic technologies. Today, as our Opto-Mechanical Engineer at Aetherflux, Andrew bridges the gap between complex light physics and rugged physical hardware. His unique blend of NASA-level rigor and Silicon Valley agility is vital as we build the next generation of space-based energy infrastructure.
