About
Knowledge Futures is an independent nonprofit organization that builds and supports tools, products, and protocols to make knowledge open, useful, and accessible. Founded in 2018 as a partnership between the the MIT Media Lab and the MIT Press, we work directly with knowledge creators and public-oriented organizations to strengthen how knowledge is produced, shared, and stewarded.
What began as a small group of researchers developing publishing tools has grown into an organization focused on addressing the structural challenges faced by libraries, presses, museums, researchers, advocacy groups, and others working in the public interest. In 2019, Knowledge Futures formally organized as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Today, we are powered by a broad network of academic, industry, and advocacy partners. Together, we design interoperable technologies and collaborative processes that demonstrate a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient knowledge ecosystem is possible.
