Across the United States, the local news landscape continues to evolve as many communities face reductions in newsroom resources and local coverage. Yet journalists and local news organizations are still producing important reporting through newspapers, digital outlets, newsletters, personal sites, Substack, LinkedIn, nonprofit platforms and independent publications. To help amplify those voices, Newsmatics, the developer of the global Affinity Group Publishing (AGP) network, is launching a new initiative inviting journalists and local news publishers to submit their work for editorial review and potential inclusion across AGP’s thousands of curated news publications. The goal is simple: help credible journalism reach broader audiences while directing readers back to the original platforms where that reporting is produced.
"Journalists and local news organizations are still doing extraordinary work in communities across the country, even as newsroom structures continue to evolve,” said David Rothstein, CEO of Newsmatics. “Our goal is to help that journalism be discovered. Affinity Group Publishing surfaces credible reporting from thousands of sources and connects readers directly to the original reporting and publishing platforms behind the work.” Unlike automated content systems that attempt to recreate journalism, this initiative is built around editorial review and proper attribution, ensuring that readers are directed to the original journalist and publication where the reporting lives. “This isn’t about replacing journalism,” Rothstein said. “It’s about helping them expand their voice, their influence and their audience.”
Through this program, journalists, local publishers, nonprofit news organizations and specialized news providers can submit their work for editorial review by AGP editors. Their reporting is then surfaced across relevant publications within the AGP network, helping readers discover their work and driving traffic back to the journalist’s original platform. “The challenge facing local news isn’t just about changes in newsroom structures,” Rothstein said. “It’s about making sure credible local journalism has the visibility it deserves.”
How the program works
Journalists and local news organizations interested in participating can submit their information for editorial review and join a growing network designed to help credible reporting reach the communities that need it most.
